Maples Surgical Centre, a division of Clearpoint Health Network, located in Manitoba, is recruiting for a casual position of Clinical Housekeeping Aide. Weekend work available.
Position Summary
The Clinical Housekeeping Aide has an important role within the healthcare team by contributing to the efficient operations of the clinical unit/area and ensuring that the Operating Rooms are turned over to meet the needs of our surgical slates. Under the direction and supervision of the OR Nurse Manager, you provide direct and indirect support for clinical housekeeping duties and assisting recovery nurses with duties relating to patient care – from assisting with supply and cleaning needs to assisting with patients, putting patient safety first.
Essential Responsibilities

• Assist in recovery area - cleaning, moving patients and tasks assigned by PAR Nurses.
• Understands and demonstrates support for the company mission, vision and values
• Transportation of clean/soiled linen, clean stretchers, carts, medical/surgical equipment/supplies, patients, specimens etc.
• Works co-operatively and constructively with all departments
• Responsible to clean OR’s between surgical cases, removing all garbage and ensuring room set up for next case.
• Responds to other duties as assigned
• Knowledge of key clinical supplies used in the area
• Help move the patient within the department including assisting with patient transfers
• Notifying manager/designate about broken equipment repairs or replacement and initiating the reporting and transportation of broken equipment to Maintenance as required
• Participates in quality assurance activities
• Ensure that all areas and supply carts are stocked, replacing linen, isolation supplies, etc.
• Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment including cleaning equipment and ensuring equipment is functional including routine checks

Required Education And Qualifications

• Understand and adhere to hospital policies and procedures including Infection Control policies, uniform dress code, cell phones and all other devices and mandatory legislation such as; Human Rights Code, Confidentiality policies and safety procedures
• Knowledge of sterile processes
• Completion of minimum high school grade 12 and able to produce a diploma of completion is required
• Ability to operate specialty equipment such as beds, limb holders etc.
• Good organizational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and work in a fast paced environment
• Good working knowledge of medical supplies and sterilization
• Able to handle stressful situations in a very fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of safe handling of sharps and biomedical waste
• Physically able to push stretchers, lift and store linen and surgical supplies, clean stretchers
• Ability to demonstrate understanding in order to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and/or diagram form
• Demonstrated ability to use positive communication skills with patients, families and colleagues
• Demonstrated ability to speak, read and comprehend the English language (written and verbal)
• Proficient in basic computer skills including email, MS Office
• IPAC precautions and associated disinfection of equipment and supplies
• Two years of recent related hospital medical/surgical supply experience
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and problem-solving skills
• Maintains proper order for equipment and supplies

Physical Requirements
Demonstrated ability to cope for long periods with physical demands such as walking, bending, pushing, and heavy lifting (lift 25-30 pounds repeatedly).
