The Opportunity
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Genomics, the Clinical Genomics Technologist I is responsible for the prompt, efficient, and accurate performance, validation, and reporting of laboratory test results, which are utilized to support clinical care as well as academic and research needs.
  • Assists in prioritizing/organizing workload to ensure compliance with established turnaround times for results reporting, in collaboration with Manager and/or lab medical/scientific staff
  • Performs various analytical techniques and acts as a technical resource for staff
  • Operates and monitors laboratory equipment/instruments and collaborates with manager on supply management
  • Performs duties in compliance with established operational policies, procedures and protocols and in accordance with safety guidelines and legislation pertaining to health care (i.e. WHMIS, TDG, OHS, waste management)
  • Participates in, or acts as a resource person for, method and technical development, optimizing and improving current methods/techniques and introducing new testing platforms
  • Coordinates and participates in QA/QC procedures and documentation to support Accreditation

Hours of Work
Monday – Friday; 7.5 hrs/day; Weekend and call back as required.
Your Qualifications
  • Demonstrates ability to research/evaluate new methodologies/instruments with little or no supervision.
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving, organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Candidates must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to technical expertise and professional development
  • Graduate from a recognized Clinical Genetics training program required.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technology (NSCMLT) license or eligibility required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a collaborative team environment.
