About the position:Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) plays a vital role in leading and managing operations. This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities, implementing operational strategies, and ensuring the efficient functioning of the organization. The COO collaborates closely with the leadership team to drive innovation, operational excellence, and the achievement of our research and innovation objectives.The successful candidate is able to work remotely, with physical locations in Fredericton, Saint John, and Moncton.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the implementation of appropriate technology systems and tools to support research operations and data management.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization, including project management, research activities, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with research ethics, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the organization.
  • Manage financial resources effectively, including budget planning, resource allocation, and financial reporting.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with academic institutions, industry stakeholders, and funding agencies to foster collaborative research opportunities and secure funding for innovation projects.
  • Manage and lead cross-functional teams, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to drive high performance and quality research outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to develop and monitor key performance indicators, metrics, and research project milestones.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and advancements in the research and innovation industry, and integrate them into the organization's strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and execute operational strategies that align with the organization's research and innovation goals and objectives.
Qualifications
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in budget planning and resource allocation.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a similar field or industry.
  • Strong knowledge of research methodologies, project management, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology systems and tools relevant to research and innovation operations.
  • University degree or post-secondary education in a relevant field such as research, science, engineering, or innovation management; advanced degree an asset.
