Our NOVONIX Battery Technology Solutions division, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, focuses on innovative battery research and development, along with providing advanced battery testing equipment and services on a global scale. In Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA, our Anode Materials division manufactures our synthetic graphite anode materials used to make lithium-ion batteries which power electric vehicles, personal electronics, medical devices, energy storage units, and more.

Role Summary:

This person will report directly to the Lead Cell Research Scientist and is responsible for the implementation of research and development projects with internal teams and external customers. In the role of Cell Research Scientist, you will be joining a world-class battery cell R&D team that is delivering innovative solutions to tough problems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with internal and external teams to design experimental plans to investigate cell chemistry and cell material performance through cell prototyping and testing, and meet project deliverables
  • Attend regular meetings to discuss results, schedules, and project plans
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Meeting with internal and external stakeholders to discuss results
  • Working with internal and external data tools, analyzing data, and generating reports
  • Implementing experiment plans using various battery testing equipment and analytical techniques
  • Working in a dry room and glovebox to mix electrolyte formulations, build coin cells and fill prototype cells, and perform diagnostic disassembly of cells
  • Regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation of experimental equipment and procedures

You are:

  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • BSc/BEng in chemistry, physics, or a related field (required)
  • Minimum 2 years laboratory experience
  • Well organized and invested in the details
  • Resourceful when it comes to solving problems
  • A problem solver
  • A highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365
  • Master’s degree in physics, chemistry, or related engineering program (preferred)

Extra awesome if you also have:

  • Battery research experience
  • Scripting knowledge (python, matlab, etc.)
