Operating Room Unit Clerk Jobs

Minimum 2 years recent experience working in Operating/Recovery Room

Demonstrated knowledge of the Nursing Process and the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario

Demonstrated excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated good assessment, judgement, decision-making and documentation skills.

Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario

Demonstrated ability to work independently at times without supervision.

One year of Administrative/Business experience in a health care setting preferred.

Outstanding customer service skills; patient-focused approach essential.

Requires the completion of one (1) year of Community College; successful completion of Medical Terminology course preferred.

Proven accurate keyboarding of net minimum 40 words per minute OR 106 keystrokes per minute.

Proven ability to work with sensitivity and compassion with oncology patient population and their family/support people.

Answers telephones, transfers calls, takes messages, answers routine inquiries or referring as appropriate; opens and distributes mail as required.

Maintains records on relief staff such as names, address, contact phone number, availability for work, suitable work area and hours worked.

Performs other related duties as required.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to deal with others effectively.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Experienced in patient education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care

Registered Nurse with a minimum of two years of continuous acute nursing experience required

Previous recent and relevant Operating Room nursing experience is an asset

Highly effective decision making, problem solving and organizational skills combined with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written

Rate of Pay: According to qualifications and experience

Graduation from a Unit Clerk Diploma program that includes a hospital or continuing care practicum

Intermediate computer skills required (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

Experience with clinical infomatic programs, such as SCM, PARIS, GoldCare, Strata Pathways, NetCare, an asset

Excellent customer service, communication and organization skills required

Collaborate with interdisciplinary perioperative team with reporting accountability to perioperative manager with professional accountability to Chief Anesthesia

Minimum three years experience as an RT or AA

Assist with case preparation including patient assessment, patient positioning, performing and assisting with intubation, anesthesia and intravenous access for surgical patients:

Monitor anaesthetized patients in accordance with the medical directive

Administration of appropriate medications as directed

Medical Office Administration Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience;

Knowledge and experience with EPIC, and computerized patient registration preferred;

Preferred experience/knowledge re: staffing according to both CUPE and ONA Collective Agreements;

Proven knowledge of medical terminology (tested);

Proven knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (tested - basic level);

Proven keyboarding skills of 30 wpm (tested);
