Economic Development Specialist Jobs

Identify and manage niche product strategies for the province, including management of select industry partnerships

Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, encouraging exchanges of information that foster knowledge and understanding

Support the day-to-day management of Travel Alberta’s investment programs, including:

Provide strategic and day-to-day coaching, performance management (including personal scorecards) and identification of developmental opportunities in of Destination Development Managers

Manages and provides leadership to multiple direct reports

Identify commonalities among multiple complex tourism ecosystems to support collaboration and the exchange of information between stakeholders

To deliver the economic development and tourism programs in accordance with funding agency requirements

Build relationships with tourism businesses in the area that offer Indigenous content relative to the Culture of Curve Lake First Nation

Consult with industry and government representatives concerning eligibility requirements for funding.

Knowledge of the Economic Development Department and Cultural services of the Curve Lake First Nation

Comprehensive computer software knowledge including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database and electronic mail software

Negotiation and conflict resolution skills

Project management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Certification in economic development and/or project management

Salary: $55,000-$67,000 based on education and experience.

Lead, manage and/or support municipal priority projects related to economic development as required.

Experience in economic development, preferably within a regional or municipal context.

Strong understanding of business theories and practices as well as knowledge of local and regional economic development potential and opportunities.

Minimum 5 years economic development and/or management consulting experience with a graduate level degree in economics or public policy

Strong project management and organization skills

Contributes to thought leadership and writes on economic development and management case studies, insights and innovations

Manages the development and evolution of planning processes for the creation and execution of economic development strategies and action plans

Prepares, manages and reports on research activities such as stakeholder and community surveys

Posses both sound quantitative and qualitative skills with the ability to translate research and discovery into applied strategy and action

·Stress management and time management skills.

Prepare and submit annual and quarterly budgets of each project to the Director of Operations and Department of Finance.

Approve all expenditures of the Economic Development accounts in collaboration with the Director of Operations and/or Department of Finance.

·Develop and manage programs and services to improve the business environment in the community.

·Develop an effective relationship with council members to maximize economic development benefit to the Community.

·Facilitate partnerships between businesses, government, financial, and education institutions and the community.

Meet all Funding Agreement requirements and complete final reports as required for projects funded by external organizations.

The incumbent must have proficient knowledge of the following (or the willingness and ability to obtain):

·Certification in Economic Development is an asset.

·Previous experience in economic planning, business development or related field.

Writing proposals and funding applications on behalf of the municipality and the business community

Liaison with both provincial and federal staff

Completion of reports while ensuring compliance with all funding contracts

Ability to deliver results on strategic objectives through effective planning, team management and problem-solving.

Manage and develop business plans that ensure the sustainability and growth of the Guelph Junction Railway.

Liaise with local, provincial, and federal government economic development programs to realize economic development benefits for the city.

Considerable experience in destination marketing and promotion. Experience in multiple mediums and digital platforms.

Experience fostering relationships and partnerships with businesses, a variety of local and regional agencies, City departments and community organizations.

Support department financial operations by reconciling purchasing card statements, creating purchase requisitions and liaising with finance department.

Provide exceptional customer service as the first line of contact with the public, business community and partner organizations:

Monitor and direct telephone, email and in-person inquiries to the appropriate EDC staff or resource.

Query clients to assess needs and refer to internal or external resources as appropriate.

Schedule meetings, presentations, and site visits.

Perform administrative functions to support day-to-day operations:

An equivalent combination of education, skills and experience may be considered.

Maintain a client management procedure and tracking system that includes prospecting, reactive inquiries, follow up and customer management activities.

Certification in Economic Development (e.g., Ec.D or C.EcD,), marketing/advertising, or commercial real estate sector experience an asset.

Implement business attraction initiatives to increase the awareness of Kamloops to external marketplaces by:

Building and maintaining relationships and networks with local and external key stakeholders to assist with the investment and business attraction initiatives.

Initiating and maintaining strategic relationships with prospective business relocation decision makers.

A management approved equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Strong collaborator and consensus builder with excellent communication skills.

Proven ability to develop a network of local, regional, national, and international finance, business, and government contacts.

Proven strategic approach and capability to systematically achieve objectives.

Demonstrated business background where focus has been on performance relative to established metrics.

Confident decision-maker with proven ability to work with various stakeholders to adapt approaches to fit unique circumstances.
