Community Psychiatric Nurse Jobs in British Columbia

Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment.

Knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side effects).

Counselling and group facilitation skills.

Provides patient advocacy services with other agencies, services and service providers.

Documents assessments, care plan, observations, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluation, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.

Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment

Identifies own learning needs/goals, reviews these with the Team Coordinator and engages in a variety of activities to meet these needs/goals.

Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

Experience in Community Psychiatric Nursing with youth and involuntary clients.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in psychiatric nursing.

Two years or more experience in a forensic setting with adolescents.

Experience in forensic psychiatric nursing and with youth who have offended.

Registered as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Ability to manage aggressive behaviour and to use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques where appropriate;

Travel is a requirement of this position and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Program

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing;

Ability to administer and monitor the side effects of psychotropic medications;

Ability to work independently in a community setting;

Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment;

Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict situations and aggressive behaviour and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques.

Demonstrated skill in Peripheral IV insertion, maintenance, blood collection, removal, and Tracheostomy care.

Knowledge of the Mental Health Act as it applies to the rights and obligations of patients and staff.

Demonstrated knowledge of impact of social, cultural and family systems on health outcomes.

Demonstrated skill in performing autonomous scope of practice and standards of care relevant to designated patient population.

Demonstrated skill in clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.
