Bylaw Enforcement Officer Jobs

Record, respond, and investigate bylaw-related enquiries and complaints related to noxious weeds and invasive insects and other minor bylaw infractions.

Complete annual provincial grant application work plan and reporting.

Extensive public relations contact which requires the exercise of independent judgment, action, tact and diplomacy.

Assist the Chief Bylaw Enforcement Officer to act as prosecutor for Regional District bylaws where the issues of these are complex.

Knowledge and experience in dealing with By-Laws, Federal Laws and Acts;

Grade 12 education or equivalent;

3 years’ experience in Municipal or Law Enforcement, Policing or related field;

Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite;

Good verbal and written communication skills including concise report writing

Post-secondary Diploma or Certification in a related field;

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification

Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

Minimum of five years' experience in an Administrative/Clerk role, or combination of the above.

Intake bylaw ticket disputes and prepare disputant and Bylaw Enforcement Officer evidence packages for review by the Screening Officer/ Manager.

Keyboarding speed of 60 wpm accompanied by a high degree of accuracy in data entry.

Completion of Senior Secondary School education supplemented by relevant Office Administration and/or Bylaw Enforcement courses.

Minimum of one year experience in a Bylaw Services department or related enforcement field.

Shifts: Monday - Friday 0800-1600

Patrol the campus parking lots ensuring that vehicles have valid parking

Guards may need to drive the parking enforcement vehicle provided by the school.

Physically fit, and be able to walk around 4 - 6 KMs per day

Considerable knowledge of the by‑laws, statutes and applicable regulations.

Considerable knowledge of the various types of business operations and licensing fees.

Sound knowledge of the zoning bylaw as it relates to the application of the business license bylaw.

Sound knowledge of the geography and street locations in the Municipality.

Sound knowledge of provincial court procedures and rules of evidence.

Skill in the use of software applications related to the work.

Attend specialized enforcement training and obtain related certifications (i.e., Noise, Building Code etc) as required.

Over one (1) year, up to and including two (2) years of related by-law enforcement experience.

Sound knowledge of Municipal Act & Planning Act and Provincial Offences Act.

Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.

Work independently and collectively with other by-law enforcement officers to ensure residents, businesses, visitors comply with municipal by-laws.

Respond to complaints, take pro-active action on by-law violations and participate in division wide, seasonal and priority enforcement initiatives.

Municipal Law Enforcement Officer certification

3-5 years working experience in related disciplines preferred

Experience with Microsoft Office programs and appropriate City software.

Deliver by-law specific information to the public, City staff, elected officials, industry specific members and other law enforcement staff.

Investigate complaints, collect evidence and perform follow-up investigations to ensure ongoing compliance.

Perform detailed inspections, maintaining accurate and detailed records/logs, databases of inspections.

Grade 12 equivalent. Related industry experience desirable, cash handling, customer service experience preferred.

Enforces Parking and Traffic Regulations by issuing parking violation warnings and citations as required, occasionally arranging for cars to be towed

Acts as a campus community ambassador by providing information and directions

Assists motorists in finding appropriate parking and using parking equipment

Places traffic control devices as required

Aids motorists in a variety of situations

Secondary school graduation plus a diploma in a related field

Valid First Aid Level 1 with CPR C
