Role: Wireless Core Network Engineer

Location: Regina, SK

Contract Duration: 12 Months

Extensions: 2 optional extensions for 1 Year

Estimated working hours:40 hours per week

General Accountabilities:

As a recognized expert in Wireless Core Technology, you are responsible to provide technical solutions for dynamic business initiatives by working with the business to develop detailed technical requirements, producing technical designs and drawings, and test plans to ensure the proper delivery of these new initiatives to SaskTel’s customers. You are also responsible to understand and evaluate new technologies, provide recommendations for their deployment within SaskTel, as well as, provide technical expertise (individually and as a team member) that will result in leading technology change within SaskTel.

Description of Services:

·As a technical expert and widely recognized authority, responsible for the continuous acquisition of new knowledge and skills. Act as a mentor to members of the wireless development team and provide guidance to others in the corporation who require understanding of advanced wireless core technology.

·Architectural design authority for Wireless core technologies.

·Provide technical consulting to influence SaskTel’s business direction by understanding and relating emerging technical and industry trends to the marketing division or other lines of business.

·Anticipate, plan, gather requirements, design, build, test or implement technical solutions involving current and evolving wireless core technologies. In some situations, this may drive the need to build cross-functional teams from several departments and provide leadership to deliver complete solutions.

·Accountable to provide ad hoc project management for smaller corporate initiatives specific to new technology introduction.

·Provide input for decisions relating to leadership, business, and technology that influence strategic plans and programs affecting our business.

·Provide input to ensure that the Wireless Core Development lab keeps pace with leading edge wireless technologies.

·Provide support for wireless core technologies.

·Provide input for professional reports, presentation, and studies that SaskTel management can rely upon as input to corporate decisions.

·It is SaskTel's preference that the successful candidate work on-site for the term of this engagement, however, the successful candidate may work remotely.

·The successful candidate will be required to work SaskTel business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST Monday to Friday (40 hours per week) unless otherwise agreed to. This will ensure the contracted resource has the ability to effectively communicate and/or interact with the SaskTel teams during the same working hours.

Mandatory Requirements:

·Education and experience (one of the following combinations):

oUniversity degree in Electrical, Electronic, Software, or Systems Engineering or dual Bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, with at least seven years of relevant wireless core technology experience. OR;

oDegree in Computer Science, with at least eight years of relevant wireless core technology experience. OR;

oDiploma or Certificate in Engineering Technology, with at least ten years of relevant wireless core technology experience.

·Ability to understand and implement new and emerging technologies to deliver new products and services.

·Must possess creative as well as analytical skills.

·Ability to function well in ambiguous situations, with particular emphasis on emerging technologies.

·Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills

·The candidate will have demonstrated experience in the following areas:

o3GPP 5G SA Architecture

o3GPP 5G NSA Option 3x Architecture

o3GPP 4G CUPS Architecture

oPolicy and Charging

o4G/5G Signaling

oService Based Architecture

oTelco Cloud Enabling Infrastructure

oDesign Documentation (call flows, configuration, acceptance test procedures, methods of procedures, etc.)

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the design and deployment of Wireless Core Networks with recent experience in the design and deployment of a 3GPP 5G Stand Alone Core.Such a candidate will have:

oWorked in development labs.

oConducted Proof of Concepts.

oDone research and development.

oImplemented cutting-edge technologies and services.

oHands-on experience in design and implementation.

oExperience coming up with standards-based designs that align with vendor capabilities and service-intent.

oExperience configuring 4G LTE Core nodes (MME, S/PGW, etc.) and 5G network functions (AMF, SMF, UPF).

oComfortable operating within a variety of vendor-specific CLI's and OSS's.

oComfortable logging into network appliances and nodes to both manually apply configuration as well as troubleshoot existing configuration.
