Reporting to the Site Services Superintendent(s), the Water & Waste Management Coordinator provides technical guidance and operational support for all water and waste management processes to ensure compliance to regulation and adherence to Baffinland’s Environmental Management System. This role is based at our Mary River mine located in Nunavut on a 3 week in and 3 week out rotation.
Main Accountabilities
  • Conducts regular field inspections and QA/QC monitoring of all water and waste facilities, infrastructure, processes and activities.
  • Support the site Operations and Environmental teams by providing data and completing reports.
  • Work in collaboration with all other departments to develop or enhance water and waste management programs across the Project site.
  • Notify of any non-conformances and assist in developing and implementing corrective actions.
  • Provides technical support for the Project to ensure overall environmental compliance to all permits, licenses, government/agency regulation, and all other legal agreements with landowners for all water and waste related programs and activities.
  • Liaise with technical services, project engineers, and operations by providing data and support when required.
  • Work directly with Supervisors and Operators to ensure that site water & waste treatment facilities are continuously operated in accordance with standard operating procedures conforming to all regulatory and business requirements.
  • Assist in the development, review and update of procedures relating to water and waste management.
  • Participate in design reviews, scope development and execution of projects & improvement initiatives related to water and waste management.
Main Qualifications
  • Remote site experience
  • Environmental supervision and/or monitoring specific to mining or construction industries
  • Engineering Degreee with Civil/Environmental focus is preferred
  • Experience with Potable, Effluent & Waste Water Treatment Systems
  • Experience in the development or implementation of waste management programs would be considered an asset.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, engineering, or related program required
  • 5-7 years of experience in a similar role
  • Arctic experience
