Job Description
Position: Ward Clerk - Permanent, Part-time


Location: Country Village Long-Term Care Home - Woodslee, ON

The Ward Clerk (permanent, part-time) reports to the Director of Care and demonstrates excellent communication and customer service skills. He/she has a basic understanding of administrative and clerical procedures/systems and the ability to multitask in a busy environment.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Creating reports as requested
  • Disposing of confidential information inappropriately
  • Carry out all assigned duties in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Company policy
  • In the interest of the safety of residents and family members, employees while on duty are accountable to carry out all duties assigned within the scope of their job in compliance with applicable legislation, standards and company policy.
  • Phone calls
  • Extendicare’s Code of Business Conduct and Standards of Employee Conduct policies are to be adhered to by the employee groups they apply to at all times.
  • Typing
  • Misusing, disclosing without proper authorization, or altering confidential information
  • Refrain from any conduct that puts residents and family members at risk.
  • Disclosing to another person the unique username or password for accessing electronic confidential health care information
  • Resident/Family Safety Accountabilities
  • Maintaining positive relationship with staff
  • Report any known or identified health and safety hazards or violations to their supervisor
  • Discussing confidential information in a public area
  • Occupational Health and Safety Accountabilities
  • Leaving confidential health care or employee information in public areas
  • Use appropriate equipment and wear personal protective equipment or clothing, as required by Extendicare/Southbridge
  • Clerical Support
  • Records management
  • Participate in all required occupational health and safety training
  • Providing exceptional customer service to residents, visitors, service providers and staff alike
  • Using another person’s username or password to access information
  • Privacy Accountabilities
  • Providing Human Resources Services (for all staff)
  • Scheduling (Nursing main focus as well as other departments)
  • Accessing confidential information that is not within the scope of the individuals duties
  • Follow safe work practices as directed by their supervisor and as required by the applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  • Understanding application of provisions of collective agreement
  • Refrain from any conduct that puts themselves, workers, contractors or others at risk
  • Respect and preserve the privacy, confidentiality and security of health care and employee information at all times. Violations of this statement include, but are not limited to:


Qualifications


  • Secondary School Diploma
  • 1 year Community College diploma/certificate in business or related program


Technical Competencies


  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Minimum of 60 wpm typing speed
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Knowledge of basic Payroll principles an asset
  • Ability to operate office equipment
