Job Description

Introduction

The Utilities Specialist (Substations) with experience in tendering and design review of high-voltage power transformers is responsible for overseeing the operations, maintenance, tendering process, and design review of high-voltage power transformers within the utility company's substation infrastructure. This role involves ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of power transformers, as well as coordinating with internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications. The Utilities Specialist plays a crucial role in managing transformer-related projects, conducting design reviews, and optimizing transformer performance to support uninterrupted power supply.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with internal teams, external vendors, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders to address transformer-related matters, resolve technical issues, and ensure effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide training and guidance to substation personnel on high-voltage power transformer operations, maintenance, and design concepts. Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the substation team.
  • Manage transformer-related projects, including expansions, upgrades, and replacements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project milestones are met, budgets are adhered to, and quality standards are maintained.
  • Collect and analyze data related to transformer operations, performance, and maintenance activities. Prepare reports, provide insights to management, and recommend improvement initiatives based on data analysis.
  • Oversee the operations, maintenance, and performance of high-voltage power transformers within the utility company's substation network.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, electrical codes, and industry standards in all aspects of high-voltage power transformer operations, maintenance, and design.
  • Identify and resolve operational issues, equipment failures, and technical challenges related to high-voltage power transformers. Collaborate with maintenance teams, engineers, and vendors to implement corrective actions and minimize downtime.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for high-voltage power transformers, including regular inspections, testing, and maintenance activities to optimize performance and extend operational lifespan.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to high-voltage power transformers and substation infrastructure.
  • Conduct comprehensive design reviews of high-voltage power transformers, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the tendering process for high-voltage power transformers, including preparing tender documents, evaluating bids, and selecting appropriate vendors or suppliers.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a management and/or technical functions in the field of high-voltage substations or main power generation equipment in power station
  • Minimum 7 years of professional seniority
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, electrical codes, and industry standards related to high-voltage power transformers and substation operations. Experience ensuring compliance and implementing safety programs.
  • Previous experience in tendering and design review of high-voltage power transformers is a necessary asset
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Additional certifications or specialized training in power transformers and substation design are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, organizing, and executing transformer-related projects within established timelines and budgets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders. Ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Extensive experience in substation operations and maintenance, with a focus on high-voltage power transformers. Proven experience in tendering processes and design review of power transformers.
  • In-depth knowledge of high-voltage power transformers, including design principles, technical specifications, and testing procedures. Familiarity with transformer manufacturing processes, quality standards, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams, lead substation personnel, and effectively manage relationships with stakeholders. Strong leadership skills to drive results and foster a positive work environment.
  • Ability to analyze technical data, perform design reviews, and identify areas for improvement in transformer performance and efficiency. Proficiency in data analysis tools and software.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify and resolve operational issues related to power transformers. Capacity to make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in managing the tendering process for power transformers, including preparation of tender documents, bid evaluation, and vendor selection.
