JOB PURPOSE

As a member of an interdisciplinary team, provides quality patient care within the scope of professional practice to patients and families during their critical care, surgical or medical experience. Performs other duties as assigned. May be reassigned throughout the department as required. Will be required to orientate to medical unit with expectation of reassignment to provide RN coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• Active registration with NANB
• Current BCLS certification
• Ability to perform the duties of the position
• 1 year Critical Care experience preferred or willing to take the Critical Care Course
• Ability to attend work on a regular basis
• Demonstrates ability to respond to emergency situations, rapidly changing priorities and complex patient care needs
• BCMI certification or willing to obtain
• Demonstrates teaching, communication and team building skills
• Good work record
• Demonstrated ability to safely transport patients i.e. ambulance transfers
• ACLS certified or willing to obtain
• Trauma Nursing (TNCC), Emergency Paediatric Nursing (ENPC) certification preferred or willing to obtain
• Demonstrates assessment skills and ability to function independently with minimal supervision
• Experience in an acute care setting an asset

• Completes annual advanced nursing competencies related to critical care
• Prioritizes and delivers complex patient care
• Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all aspects of work
• Administration of IV vasopressors
• Responds to emergency situations and rapidly changing priorities
• Performs the duties of the position including ambulance transfers
