Who we need

Reporting the the Prototype Development Manager, we are looking for a Tool and Die Shop Supervisor. You will lead the work of a cross functional team reviewing all CAD Models, CNC Programs, and G codes, making the necessary recommendations and adjustments for their conformity to DFMA Standards. You will analyze, build, review and optimize dies and tooling for 3D prototyping and models, and create programs for CNC Milling Machines.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a global industry leader, and supervise a team while remaining hands-on. You will have the chance to take your career to the next level on this team, or explore opportunities in engineering, sales and account management, or operations.

What you will focus on:

  • Analyze. You will analyze SolidWorks models, drawings, sketches, and design data to determine the dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates. You will review minimum and maximum levels of raw material, tools, and bits and prepare order sheets to maintain inventory levels.
  • Collaborate. You will work closely with Prototype Development Scheduler and Department Manager to ensure daily weekly targets are met and communicate any risks and capacity challenges in a timely manner.
  • Lead. You will oversee the work of up to eight team members, including CNC Programmers, Machinists, and Machine Setup Operators. You will review the work of junior programmers, to ensure the appropriate Post Processor is selected to create a numeric control file (.TAP, .CNC, or .NC). You will conduct daily standups and perform weekly audits to ensure all health and safety policies and procedures are being followed across the department.
  • Optimize. You will work with the Department Manager and Group Leaders to develop improvement ideas that support business objectives, enhance productivity and reduce downtime. You will create job aids, safety and instruction manuals for machine setup and schedule preventative maintenance activities as recommended by the manufacturer to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime. You will schedule and oversee all maintenance and repairs of CNC Mills, Routers, belt grinders and thermoformer etc.
  • Program. You will write machine instructions in symbolic language to encode numerical control tape or direct numerical control database to regulate the movement of machine along cutting path. You will create NC programs, n G code language, after selection of appropriate machine. You will verify NC files using CAMWorks Simulation to ensure that all material will be removed and that no gouging or collisions of cutting tool or tool holders with workpiece will occur.
  • Quality assurance. You will review programs to eliminate instruction errors or omissions and to improve programs by adjusting machining parameters to achieve optimal efficiency. You will compare encoded tape or computer printout with original program sheet.

What you bring:

  • The interpersonal skills. You have flexible and effective communication skills. You can write routine reports and correspondence. You thrive in a collaborative environment and can work independently with minimal supervision.
  • The technical skills. You have expertise with SolidWorks and CNC programming. You can read and interpret documents such as blueprints, CAD models, G codes, design briefs, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
  • The leadership skills. You are a creative problem solver who can oversee projects from idea to completion. You have exposure to coaching and guiding the work of a team in a formal or informal capacity. You can lead and participate in standups, and ensure deliverables are met on time.
  • The experience. You have progressive experience in building new dies and tooling by preparing various materials from drawings and specifications; as well as from prototypes, by layout, setting up, machining and fitting metal stock. You can repair and test dies and tooling by layout, setting up machining and finishing metal stock and verify conformance to specifications by checking dimensions, clearances and alignments, consistently working to close tolerances.
