Design, construct, monitor, and inspect buildings and structures that are safe and capable of withstanding the elements and loads to which they are exposed, as well as improve the structural integrity of existing buildings / structures at the Mary River Mine and Milne Port. Design and deliver assigned projects using the equipment and materials available onsite within approved budget, schedule and quality parameters, and in compliance with established health, safety, environmental, regulatory and internal corporate requirements. Thorough knowledge of Arctic construction and Arctic engineering principles including use of structural software and formal hand calculation is required


This position is located at site with a 3 week Fly-In, Fly-Out rotation.


Main Accountabilities


  • Selecting appropriate construction materials available onsite to meet design criteria
  • Calculating loads and stresses for use and environmental conditions
  • Effective liaising with regulators and obtaining required approvals
  • Other duties as required
  • Administering contracts and managing projects onsite. Monitoring and inspecting work onsite.
  • Support development of the department's annual execution plan and develops area specific, goals and objectives.
  • Provide technical advice and problem solving
  • Effective communication, liaison with project stakeholders and coordination with colleagues including those on opposite rotation as well as colleagues based in the corporate office.
  • Estimating and identifying work scope
  • Participate in development, implementation and adherence to safe work procedures and promote high safety, health and environmental awareness and compliance to all standards.
  • Preparing and stamping reports, designs, and drawings.


Main Qualifications


  • 10 years of structural engineering in mining or construction sector experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering required
  • Previous Arctic and remote site experience
  • Client focused
  • Experience with AUTOCAD, SolidWorks or similar software required
  • Arctic Engineering experience preferred
  • Professional Engineer registered in Nunavut (or able to register)
  • Influential leadership skills
  • Proficient with FEA software (SAP2000, RevIt, ETABs or similar)
  • Proficient with Excel, MS Word, Microsoft Project or similar software
