Job Description
Opportunity


MacEwan University is seeking a Strength and Conditioning Specialist for a 0.6 FTE 8-month non-recurring term opportunity with our Griffins Athletics department. Reporting to the Director of Griffins Athletics, you will work closely with the Head Coaches and Athletic Therapy Team to create, develop, and monitor the strength and conditioning programming for student athletes within MacEwan Athletics based on the specific needs of each team, with the primary objective to improve team performance and reduce injuries.


Key Responsibilities Include


  • Building and maintaining a programming manual for both coaches and athletes, which includes progressions, photos/videos of exercises/positioning, etc.;
  • Scheduling and delivering programming to varsity athletes in the high performance training center, providing education on proper techniques and recovery strategies;
  • Consulting with coaches to learn about program goals and needs, and building programming to support those goals;
  • Continuously assesses athlete progress and provides constructive feedback to individual athletes on their progress within the programming;
  • Maintaining effective communication with all varsity coaches around training schedules, team physical needs and individual physical needs and assists with scheduling of sport specific training;
  • Designing, developing, and implementing quality evidence-based strength and conditioning programs for all varsity teams and customizing training based on injury history, mobility limitations, movement ability, individual goals, and positional differences;
  • Developing recommendations for off-season fitness programming, tailored to each sport with a goal of maintaining fitness levels and mitigating repetitive injuries.
  • Conducting comprehensive fitness and health assessments of each individual athlete to determine base level of fitness, areas of focus, etc.;
  • Collaborating with Athletic Therapists to remain informed about athlete injuries and create individualized rehabilitation and strength-building program to support the athlete through recovery;
  • Creating a logbook/monitoring system and related communications that are easily accessible by student-athletes, coaches, and Athletic Therapists, which are used to inform programming;
  • Assisting in the scheduling, assessment choice and delivery of pre- and post-season fitness testing for each varsity team, and collecting and analyzing data throughout the process to develop informative reports for the athletes and coaches; and
  • Providing regular updates and feedback to all varsity coaches on how team members are performing in the program, adjusting as required to support needs of the team;

Qualifications


  • A minimum of a 2-year diploma in Personal Training, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Human Kinetics, Health Promotion, Exercise Science, or other related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a high-performance setting, building full year strength and conditioning programming.
  • Experience working with high performance athletes.
  • Equivalences may be considered.
  • A valid CSEP-CPT (or equivalent) designation.
Position Requirements


  • Flexibility in your work hours, as this position may require longer shifts, and/or evening and weekend work depending on the nature of the athletics event schedule, requiring your work schedule to be adapted accordingly.
