Job Description
As a member of the Satellite Health Facility, the Speech Language Pathologist will provide identification, evaluation, treatment, management, education, counseling, preventative and consultive services to an adult population presenting with swallowing and communication disabilities related to an acute or chronic medical, oncological and/or hematological condition.
  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to older adults and age-related changes
  • Demonstrated strength in problem-solving, critical appraisal and decision-making
  • Current knowledge base and experience in the assessment and management of adults with swallowing and communication disorders
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional education and advancement of practice
  • Effective communication abilities
  • Related continuing education, advance training and upgraded skills an asset
  • Previous experience working with patients with oncological and hematological diagnoses preferred
  • Previous experience working in an acute medical setting preferred
  • Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CALPO)
  • Demonstrated willingness to collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary team required

Located in Hamilton’s downtown core, the Satellite Health Facility (SHF) team provides care for low acuity and Alternate Level of Care (ALC) patients. Generally, patients transferred from other HHS sites to the SHF are waiting for: Home with Home Care supports, Transitional Care, Long-Term Care or require time to convalesce after an acute care admission. The SHF team is critical to achieving HHS’ vision of “Best Care for All” – supporting HHS patients to receive the right care in the right place!
The Satellite Health Facility operates within the Community and Population Health Services Program, under the Director of Community and Population Health Services. Clinical Managers provide day-to-day leadership and direction for the team and supporting staff. The SHF is comprised of full-time and part-time Nursing staff, Allied Health Professionals and Healthcare Aides supporting Inpatient services.

Monday to Friday; days.
This position is temporary until March 2024.
