Position Summary
This role is Hybrid Victoria BC.
Thales is hiring a Technical Material Expeditor is to interface with the various internal and external stakeholders responsible for planning, scheduling, and maintaining the material requirements for Work Periods and rectification of deficiencies. This includes keeping the various stakeholders appraised of the material status associated with both planned maintenance and corrective maintenance. Additionally, the Technical Material Expeditor is tasked with ensuring the Work Period activities are materially supported, identifying alternate sources of material as and when required.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The Technical Material Expediter is responsible for:
  • Raising requisitions for material and equipment required to support defined maintenance activities;
  • Completing assigned tasks within time and cost constraints to meet contracted Key Performance Indicator (KPI) requirements within the program in accordance with Thales policy; and
  • Participation in regular team meetings, advising on material status, and recommending remedial action for any potential issues;
  • Tracking material availability and delivery dates; advising on impact to schedule or active maintenance work items;
  • Identifying material requirements; investigating and advising on alternative methods of obtaining outstanding material that is not available. This may include, but not be limited to, sourcing warehouse inventory, alternate part numbers, next higher assembly, local purchase, vendor/manufacturer availability, repair line assets, and temporary replacement options;
  • Updating Department of National Defence (DND) Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) to align with Thales ERP system for material movement and status;
  • Liaise with internal and customer representatives along with external organizations in supporting a collaborative environment;
  • Conducting route cause investigations for material subject to delivery delay or non-conformance;
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.
  • Creating material demands in the Thales and customer ERP system;
  • Liaise with the Engineering team to initiate, report and track material obsolescence;
  • Conducting Material Resource Planning activities, including establishing and maintaining the Bill of Materials (BoM) for all identified work items;
  • Generating exception reports; initiating and maintaining additional reports as required;
  • Prioritizing, Tracking and updating material reservations to support work items;

  • Promote Thales’s Health, Safety and Environmental programs by demonstrating HS&E Leadership in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Comply with and ensure compliance of others to all relevant HS&E legislative requirements, policies, procedures and framework with the intent of preventing or minimizing accidental exposures to self, colleagues, visitors and/or the environment.
Minimum Requirements
  • Excellent communication and people skills, adept at interfacing between multiple internal/external stakeholders.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience working within the Military or a Defence Contract or project desirable.
  • Strong computer literacy, with proven experience with Microsoft Office Suite essential;
  • Experience working within procurement, finance, project management or Supply Chain & Warehousing environments.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and work autonomously.
  • Open minded and able to listen; share ideas while bringing added value / capturing innovation.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities;
  • Experience with the Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) an asset.
  • Previous experience working with IBM Maximo, SAP or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Defense Industry experience an asset.
  • Trade Certification and/or equivalent experience.
Physical Demands
Predominantly office based, but will also be required to work onboard Naval Vessels, at the Malahat office warehouse, or from home.
Must meet all federal government requirements to access Canadian government facilities, including naval dockyards.
Regulatory Compliance Requirements:
  • Required to access and work in DND facilities and therefore must comply with Federal facility health regulations
  • Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the ITAR or the EAR.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret Level.
  • Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment as this position has direct access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
