Job Description
Solar Installation Lead-Hand


Reports to: Foreman and Project Manager


Number of Employees Supervised: 2 to 4


Salary Range: $30 to $40


Primary Job Functions


Coordinate on-site tasks with a small crew to complete solar system installations on various job sites.


Ensure solar systems comply with manufacturer and design requirements, and are installed to company standards.


Provide regular updates to the foreman and management on project schedule, safety concerns, and any tool or inventory needs.


Essential Roles And Responsibilities


  • Supervise and install racking, inverters, and panels for residential and commercial solar PV systems.
  • Liaison and aid sub-trades to coordinate and complete wiring, ballast systems, and other electrical and roofing requirements as needed.
  • Instruct crew on correct installation procedures and ensure correct and safe execution of tasks.
  • Safely operate hoist and lift equipment including boom lifts, telehandlers, and forklifts to transport tools and materials.

Success as our Solar Installation Lead-Hand requires someone who is committed to delivering consistent results across various job sites. You lead your crew through instruction and example, contributing to the work that needs to be done while overseeing the scheduling and layout from start to finish. Your frequent communication shows us where we can improve processes and ensures that you have all of the materials necessary to get the job done on time.


You will earn respect from your crew and foreman with your consistent organization and positive attitude. You are willing to put in extra work when asked, showing that you are committed to the team. You are receptive to feedback and provide feedback and encouragement to your crew to help them improve their abilities.


RequirementsRequired Skills


  • Physically capable of working on a slope, holding awkward positions and lifting 50+ lbs repeatedly.
  • Proficient working at heights and on slopes with hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Able to read and understand engineering plans, quotes, and manufacturer installation manuals.


Required Experience


This position demands someone with 3 to 5 years of experience installing solar systems and a minimum of 1 year experience leading a crew in a construction relevant setting. You must have experience working with engineering drawings, and quotes for solar installation. You have worked on commercial job sites and demonstrated adherence to GC protocols. You understand solar PV systems, how they work, and how to install them to manufacturer specifications. You must possess some electrical knowledge including AC and DC systems.

You must be someone who faces challenges with a positive attitude and integrity. This position is for a self-starter that will lead by example as a long-term part of our team. You must be willing to learn and abide by company policies and procedures. You must take pride in your work from start to finish and show commitment to project timelines.


You are committed to completing the task at hand and don’t mind working late on occasion to get the job done properly. This position requires someone who is reliable, and both willing and able to be flexible. In this position, you can expect some longer days where you are off at 6:00 or 6:30pm and some longer weeks with an additional 1 to 2 days to the normal 4-day (10hr days) work week.


Required Results


Completion of projects to design specifications, on time, with minimal rework. Racking, and panels are aligned and well-placed to meet aesthetic expectations. Clients are happy with project results and on-site etiquette. Project updates and material needs are reported regularly. A positive and motivated team dynamic is maintained.
