Job Description
Company Description

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.

To solve this problem, we expanded into software and built integrated solutions to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.

Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

As a software engineer you will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining a feature rich reporting data visualization at scale that provides complete, accurate and fast reporting and accounting for merchants with hundreds of millions transactions every year. You will be deeply involved in building reporting tools like data exports, data sharing & scheduling notifications that empower Square merchants to get access to their data at their fingertips. You will be involved in the technical details of building data visualization, shipping end to end products and features on Dashboard for the web to provide an engaging experience for millions of Square merchants around the world.

You will:

  • Design, implement seller tools based on sellers’ needs
  • Navigate through various APIs, find innovative solutions, make thoughtful trade offs if necessary to provide best seller experience
  • Improve, iterate on the technology used for data portability and own end to end user experience associated with that.
  • Build and maintain sales data export, sharing & notifications
  • Embrace quick build, measure and learning iterations to bring products to market and work alongside world class product managers and designers
  • Hold your teammates and yourself to a high standard of engineering working on products that have a huge impact on sellers day to day operations.

Qualifications

You have:

  • Experience building component-based web apps with modern JavaScript front-end frameworks (e.g. React, Vue, Angular, Ember)
  • Strong knowledge and experience with modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Experience building full stack end to end product features. Experience in Ruby is a plus.
  • Innate curiosity and desire to build products our merchants depend on
  • 2+ years of industry experience, preferably with a B.S. or equivalent

Web technologies we use and teach:

  • Ruby on Rails
  • JavaScript
  • Java
  • ES6 JavaScript
  • React
  • Ember JS
  • SCSS
