About this opportunity:
Cenovus has some very exciting opportunities for Site Operations Engineers who have recently graduated up to 5 years of industry experience.
The Site Operations Engineer shall provide field level process engineering support to Operations and other business stakeholders within Thermal and Conventional Heavy Oil.
Key pieces of the role include applying engineering theory and problem-solving skills to resolve safety/environmental/integrity concerns, optimize facility performance, and scope/identify opportunities that reduce OPEX or add business value.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated to learn through on-the-job application, show initiative, be organized, and work well in a fast-paced, team environment that requires strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.

Responsibilities:
- Complete performance monitoring on facility process and equipment; collaborate to drive business performance and operational efficiency.
- Support safety, environmental, and integrity concerns; scope and frame to resolve.
- Define, implement, monitor, and sustain facility Safe Operating Limits.
- Complete or support work intake for process engineering investigations and process, management of change requests.
- Verify process changes, validate process function, and perform equipment sizing / rating by creating and updating process simulations models and/or completing engineering calculations / analysis.
- Identify facility bottlenecks, process improvements, and OPEX reduction opportunities; scope and frame to resolve.
- Execute process engineering investigations and small, process engineering MOCs.
- Complete and support engineering work in alignment with the Cenovus professional practice management plan.
- Provide process engineering representation and support for Operational risk assessments, Project / MOC PHA, revalidation HAZOPs, and other related evaluations.
- Support facility outages by quantifying outage production impacts, supporting operational risk assessments, completing process engineering calculations / modelling, and supporting found work resolution.
- Support the continuous improvement of business processes and documentation.
- Complete process release calculations to support process safety event incident investigations.
- Resolve operational process / equipment issues (analyze and troubleshoot process issues, recommend ideas and solutions).
- Coordinate process trials (PTRs) (eg. chemical trials, process optimization).
- Interface with capital project teams as needed, support up front scoping and integration/consideration of operating conditions.
- Complete data gathering / trending to support business needs.
- Support the Enhanced Production Audit Program (annual measurement schematic review, engineering estimates, monthly or quarterly gas sample verification, audits).
- Support integrated production planning by identifying and managing facility constraints.
- Support and collaborate with Operations to:
- Interface with Facilities Engineering to support process engineering requirements for front end scoping and execution of engineering investigations and MOCs (process engineering support for facility changes).
Qualifications:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Chemical Engineering degree or equivalent program with a focus on process engineering courses.
- Experience with process simulation tools (HYSYS, Unisim)
- Will consider new graduates up to 5 years of industry experience
- Previous process engineering design experience is an asset
- Experience in process calculations (control valve sizing and rating, piping hydraulics/heat loss, PSV/PVRV sizing and rating, vessel/HEX sizing and rating, pump curves/performance, …).
- Must be registered with APEGS as an EIT
- Driver’s license is required
- Previous experience in an operational, process engineering role is an asset
