Job Description
Job Title: Shop Manager


Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Shop Manager to lead, maintain and manage our fleet of Slurry Separation Equipment and personnel. Initial responsibility requires commissioning of a new facility in Calgary, AB, while overseeing the management of separation equipment, shop technicians, and implementing efficient warehouse management processes. Reporting directly to the Canadian Senior Vice President, the Shop Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth transition of personnel and equipment from the current facility in Leduc, AB, while also driving process design and implementation to optimize operations.


Facility Commissioning and Personnel Transition (Completion date Jan 2024):


  • Manage the movement of personnel and equipment from the Leduc facility, minimizing disruptions and ensuring a seamless transition
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safety protocols, logistics, and facility readiness are addressed
  • Lead and coordinate the commissioning process of the new facility in Calgary, ensuring all aspects are executed according to timelines and objectives


Key Responsibilities- Following New Facility Commission


Equipment Management and Maintenance:


  • Work with Sales team to ensure customer delivery dates and expectations are being met
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment and process issues
  • Maintain and implement pre-designed preventive maintenance schedules, utilizing extensive knowledge of industrial equipment management best practices
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and optimization of separation systems, field equipment and systems within the facility, ensuring maximum performance, reduced downtime/turnover and optimization of time and operations


Warehouse Management and Process Implementation:


  • Design and implement efficient warehouse management processes, leveraging your extensive knowledge in this area to streamline inventory management, order fulfillment, and material handling
  • Lead the adoption of new processes through training, monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Analyze current workflows, identify bottlenecks, and propose improvements to enhance overall operational efficiency
  • Manage, maintain and provide financial budgets and reporting to meet the desired targets to ensure profitability within facility and for the company


Team Leadership and Development:


  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and promote a safe work environment
  • Provide strong leadership to the shop technicians and warehouse staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Conduct performance assessments, provide mentorship, and identify opportunities for skills enhancement


Reporting and Communication:


  • Daily reporting to the Canadian Senior Vice President regarding the commissioning progress, equipment maintenance, process implementation, and operational achievements
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to align goals, share insights, and drive a cohesive approach to facility management


Work Environment: The Shop Manager will primarily work in Calgary, Ab overseeing the initial commissioning activities and ongoing equipment maintenance, process implementation, and team operations. This position will require travel between the Leduc and Calgary facilities, during the relocation of equipment to Calgary, as well as participation in off-hours activities related to commissioning, equipment emergencies, and process implementation.

Requirements


Qualifications and Skills:


  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a passion for driving innovation and continuous improvement
  • Experience with 5S understanding/implementation
  • Lead a SCRUM Team, and the SCRUM processes
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
  • Extensive experience in facility commissioning, equipment management, and warehouse process design and implementation
  • Strong project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead and execute complex initiatives on time and within budget
  • Profound knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory control, order fulfillment, and material handling best practices (preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Management, or extensive years of industry management related experience (preferred)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making
