  • Work with the operational support teams to ensure existing and new products are in a position to be supported
  • Regular reviews of design documentation, taking ownership of keeping it pertinent
  • Keep up to date with current technologies and trends to prevent missed opportunities
  • Work proactively with the product and engineering teams to ensure the continuous and measurable repayment of technical debt
  • Respond to product roadmap requests from the business / product team with design on best to implement, calling out risks and associated mitigations 
  • Hands on coaching and mentoring of the engineering team breeding a culture of proactive, collaborative design
  • Present the case for solutions designed with external products, and see their implementation through to completion.
  • Work with the engineering team as well as other Architects to define architectural documentation standards to ensure knowledge transfer and easy on-boarding of new starters
  • Work with the wider team to define, document and maintain a set of non-functional requirements that existing and new products will be measured against 
  • Setup and chair design review forums for the vertical, ensuring the process is communicated as well as adhered to, and design decisions are clearly captured
  • Work with the engineering teams to assist in the creation of proofs-of-concept to demonstrate new ideas/technologies and architectural concepts, at times supporting with hands-on contributions 
  • Maintain (produce where missing) department tech-radar and associated processes regarding adoption of new technologies, as well as working with the wider architecture group to ensure a consistent approach
  • Act as the day-to-day design authority for a major product vertical or customer account(s)
Qualifications
  • Experience at decomposing monolithic systems in favour of smaller functional services
  • Very good knowledge of all phases of software development life cycle: requirements analysis, design, implementation, code review, testing, and release 
  • In-depth knowledge of systems design, architecture, and implementing large high transactional systems  .
  • Authoritative knowledge in the company on several languages, applications, domains, tools and technical software engineering processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • The ability to influence engineers in all parts of the organisation and justify solutions to management.
  • 5+ years of Java, C, C++ commercial programming experience, shell scripting, networking protocols, web-development, and database management 
  • Knowledge of customer management platforms (CRM, CDP, CIAM), digital experience (CMS, Headless architecture) and Cloud will be an asset.
Additional Information
This position is hybrid, 2 days a week in the office which is located in Burnaby, near Brentwood mall. Working hours are flexible.
