About The Opportunity
The Senior Financial Analyst - Budget role is a key leadership role within the Financial Planning, Budget and Revenue team; the Senior Analyst is responsible to provide leadership to analysts and students and to coordinate work under the direction of manager. The Senior Analyst provides mentoring to the analyst team and takes on oversight and accountability for the more strategic, and complex situations and initiatives requiring action and support from the finance team.
The Senior Analyst will be responsible to coordinate the overall budgeting process and activities along with compensation analysis under the direction of the Manager.
The Senior Analyst will have the accountability for processes related to the following: the operating budget process, providing support to capital budgeting processes as necessary, budget maintenance, the technical “Budman” budgeting system, forecasting support, and compensation analysis and support.
Responsibilities Include
  • Monitors the performance of budget processing activities for efficiency, integrity, accuracy and quality.
  • Builds and maintains internal and external relationships with customers and government department and agencies related to position.
  • Contributes to the overall effectiveness of Nova Scotia Health through involvement or leadership in committees.
  • Collaborates with People Services, Decision Support, Financial Reporting, Payroll, and Financial Analytics and other colleagues to effectively value-add analysis on overall compensation.
  • Supports key NSH leaders by providing expertise in variance analysis, forecasting, compensation analysis, budget and planning.
  • Analyzes activities/processes with a view towards identifying enhancement opportunities to improve processes.
  • Oversees the timely preparation and analysis of numerous financial reports.
  • Reviews and validates reconciliations and analyses performed by analyst team. Coordinates the efficient and effective completion of work assigned to analyst team.
  • With direction from the Manager, supervises and oversees the work of the analyst team and students by championing and following sound financial management through accurate processing, reconciliation, monitoring and reporting.
  • Provides strategic advice to the respective Manager, on all opportunities and issues.
  • Communicates and discuss Nova Scotia Health Authority budgeting guidelines and procedures with analysts to ensure responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities are defined and understood.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Minimum Five years' strong senior level functional system experience and knowledge of budget, general accounting and financial analytics required
  • Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience with budgeting software, methodologies and processes
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, technical and conceptual thinking skills
  • Highly knowledgeable of SAP functionality for both financial and payroll processes. Highly knowledgeable of technical aspects of SAP and how they relate to or impact business processes.
  • Experience in engaging and leading teams and processes in a collaborative, participative manner to respond to the mission, vision, goals and objectives an organization
  • Accounting designation preferred
  • Possesses a solid understanding of key finance and accounting processes and standards
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Graduate of a recognized post-secondary business and/or accounting program, Undergraduate Degree preferred
  • Excellent collaboration, verbal and written communication skills

  • Permanent, Full-Time, 75 hrs bi-weekly
Compensation and Incentives
$36.33 - $45.42 Hourly
