The Property Management Division of Highways and Public Works builds and maintains government buildings to provide safe workplaces for YG employees and public access to government services. We provide planning, project management, maintenance, and custodial services for existing and new facilities. We employ tradespeople, architects, engineers, labourers, administrators, and more; there are a variety of exciting career opportunities in Property Management Division.
As a member of Facilities Management and Regional Services and reporting to the Security Foreperson, the Security Guard is responsible for maintaining the security of Yukon Government assets in assigned HPW owned facilities as per government security procedures.

  • Experience Following established security procedures in a Government building setting;
  • Diploma or certificate in a recognized security procedures program or related discipline;
  • Experience troubleshooting and operating but not limited to a variety of security asset systems (i.e. Security panels, door contacts etc).
  • Experience with emergency procedures (e.g., evacuation, administering first aid);

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability (what candidates will be assessed on):
  • Experience using Microsoft computer software (i.e., Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Experience submitting shift reports;
  • Experience of working in and around building Mechanical areas
  • Excellent client service skills and interacting with the public;
  • Ability to work in both outdoor and indoor environments
  • Professional work ethic;
  • Knowledge of Security and Emergency procedures;
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills;
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment and use good judgment;
Conditions of Employment
  • Obtain and maintain vulnerable sector RCMP security clearance (to be completed and clear prior to hire);
  • Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent;
  • Standard First Aid with CPR (to be acquired within 6 months of hire).
Job Requirements
  • Wearing a uniform provided by the department;
  • Shift work, including short notice call-in and working weekends;
  • Use of personal protective equipment.
  • Conducts Routine physical checks of all assigned Yukon Government HPW owned building assets
