Respiratory Therapist - Spinal Muscular Atrophy(Sma) Clinic – Hurvitz Brain Sciences Program- Temporary Part Time (2023-231342)

Summary Of Duties

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Respiratory Therapist (RT) in the outpatient Adult Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Clinic, works within a multidisciplinary team to provide safe and effective care to the adult SMA patient population.

The RT will be responsible for initiating, educating and managing patients on ventilatory and airway clearance devices, as well as liaising with community supports/partners, assist with the completion of relevant forms and referrals, be able to work flexible hours, and other duties as required.

The RT will also be an integral part of the team and fully involved with education and supervision of students (both respiratory therapy students and students of the inter-professional team), as well as other inter-professional team activities such as team meetings, clinical rounds, team huddles and quality improvement initiatives.

The RT supports the Philosophy of Person-Focused Care concept and principles and the Mission and Values of Sunnybrook; provides education/counseling, and documents information according to appropriate standards.

In parallel to the clinical duties summarized above, this individual will also be participating in research related activities

Qualifications/Skills

• Demonstrated ability to handle stressful environment
• Proven ability to work well in a team environment
• Demonstrated ability to integrate and apply critical thinking skills
• Mature, independent and self-motivated
• Previous experience caring for neuromuscular patients an asset
• Thoroughly familiar with and competent in all aspects of Respiratory Therapy
• Demonstrated clinical and technical ability
• Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist certified by the College of Respiratory Therapy of Ontario (or graduate license)
• Current BCLS required
• Graduate from an accredited institute of Respiratory Therapy
• Previous ambulatory experience preferred
