Job Description
Looking for work as a Recreation Aide?We are hiring for a Recreation Aides at Agassiz Seniors Community our Agassiz location.Reporting to the Recreation Manager, this position is responsible to provide socialization to the residents in a manner that meets their individual needs; whilst maintaining their respect and dignity. In conjunction with the Recreation Manager, this position will also be responsible for resident assessments, therapeutic programs and outcome measurement.*Education:*
  • Stewardship of resident and facility property.
  • Educate other co-workers/colleagues on the proper safety techniques when there is a possibility of endangering a client.
  • Encourage the involvement of families and friends of residents in the lives of the resident.
  • Work with the Recreation Manager to ensure that resident assessments are completed and kept up to date.
  • Work with the Recreation Manager to plan, organize and coordinate programs appropriate for the resident needs on your floor.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Manager.*Regulations:*Adheres to regulations outlined in the following Acts and Legislations:* _The Criminal Records Review Act _(RSBC 1996)* _The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act _(RSBC 1996)* _B.C.’s Health Care (Consent) and Care Facility (Admission) Act_* _Patients Property Act_* _Community Care and Assisted Living Act_* _Adult Guardianship Act_* _WorkSafe B.C. Regulations_* Satisfactory present and continuous medical screening in compliance with the Province’s immunization and tuberculosis control programs*Resident Safety:*
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations in the workplace.*Health and Safety Risks:*
  • Physical*:- Muscle strain from lifting, transferring, turning clients- Dealing with aggressive clients- Repetitive strain injuries
  • Assist in the creation of individual therapeutic programs for which an outcome can be monitored and measured.
  • Maintenance and upgrading of immunizations.
  • Assist with mobility program as required.
  • Job requires a significant amount of sitting, standing, reaching, walking, lifting and walking (according to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) Definitions, this job is considered “Medium”).
  • Help create a pleasant mealtime experience.
  • Lifting 50lbs maximum.
  • May involve sitting with pushing and pulling or arm and/or leg controls.
  • Completion of FoodSafe course*Responsibilities*:
  • Provide support, encouragement and guidance of the volunteers.
  • Socialization to residents in a manner which meets the individual needs of each resident; while maintaining (valuing) their respect and dignity.
  • Must hold a Recreation Education Certification
  • Expectation of knowledge and daily practice of the Simpe Q and Agassiz Seniors Community policies and values.
  • Report any unsafe activities that may cause harm or injury to a client.
  • Promote and maintain an atmosphere of Agassiz Seniors Community and a home-like environment.
  • Observe and correct any unsafe behavior demonstrated by client.*Physical Demands:*
  • Chemical*:- WHMIS & Control products (e.g. Cleaning products, skin & wound products, shampoos, soaps, antiseptic and antibacterial solutions, Oxygen)
  • Commitment to providing the highest quality service.
  • Knowledge of activity calendar creation.
  • Ergonomic*:- Working at a desk/computer
  • Aware of personal safety and right to refuse unsafe work.
  • Comply with all employment requirements as detailed in the Simpe Q hiring package and Licensing guidelines
  • Valid Class IV license
  • Frequently lifting and/or carrying objects up to 20lbs.

  • Commitment to resident and personal safety.
  • Perform all duties in a manner in which client safety is the focus.
  • Biological*:- Contact with blood & body fluids- Exposure to illnesses common to communal living environments (Influenza, colds, GI illnesses, other bacteria & viruses)- Plants and animals- Needle stick injuries- Follow all Covid 19 worksafe protocols, policies and procedures as outlined by the Medical Health Office, Public Health Office and the Health Authorities
  • Coordinate with the Recreation Manager to maintain the department budget when arranging programs/entertainers/outings etc.
