STARTING SALARY: $67,893 – $117,697 (Academic salaries are determined by a calculation based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the Collective Agreement for Academic Employees)

Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean, Human and Justice Studies, the incumbent facilitates the delivery of a range of theory and practice courses in the Justice Studies program areas. The incumbent will incorporate a variety of teaching, learning and assessment strategies that are designed to meet the needs of learners. The incumbent will participate in research and scholarship initiatives. In addition, the incumbent will have the opportunity to provide academic leadership in the coordinator of courses and/or programs in accordance with the collective agreement and College procedures
Professor Responsibilities
  • Implements a range of delivery strategies, which complements the varied learning styles represented in a current college classroom and
encourages a cooperative learning climate, incorporating evidence-based practice and best practice guidelines
  • Enhances and defines cluster-based programming within the School of Health, Human and Justice Studies
  • Defines, evaluates, and validates learning outcomes for courses and programs, ensuring that students are aware of relevant learning outcomes,
  • Develops and implements course learning outcomes and assessment strategies, ensuring program goals and vocational standards are reflected

  • Supports student progress in assigned courses through individual tutorial and academic counseling
  • Engages in ongoing faculty development opportunities and effectively liaises with colleagues and other College and community and industry

  • Assists with the creation and supervision of student field placements as assigned
  • Contributes to program development by participating in the Provincial Program Review
  • Assists in program awareness and program recruitment activities
Qualifications
  • A Baccalaureate degree in the social sciences required. (Preference will be given to candidates with graduate degrees)
  • Minimum 8 years of recent experience working in the criminal justice system with a minimum of 5 years of front-line experience supporting
people in conflict with the law in the following areas: case management, risk assessment, counselling, program facilitation, security within a
residential, youth justice or correctional setting.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the principles of adult learning with an ability to develop and review appropriate curriculum that conveys the
  • Recent and relevant post-secondary teaching and curriculum development experience is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative environment demonstrated through a strong network of industry professionals and agencies
  • Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning and innovation

  • An ability to apply an understanding of diversity and inclusiveness to meet the needs of a diverse student population
