About Rayleigh Solar Tech
Rayleigh Solar Tech (Rayleigh) is a Halifax, Nova Scotia based Startup that is commercializing perovskite solar cells, a promising new technology that has comparable efficiency to silicon-based and is inexpensive to manufacture. Perovskite solar cells can be manufactured to be flexible and semi-transparent. Rayleigh is currently in the process of scaling up from benchtop to large-scale manufacturing.
Job overview
Encapsulation is the final stage of manufacturing a perovskite solar panel. Without proper encapsulation, a solar panel cannot survive the elements. The successful candidate will become an expert on Rayleigh’s solar cell encapsulation process and perform solar cell encapsulation on a daily basis. The technician will work with and maintain industrial equipment in Rayleigh’s production facility. The technician will also assist with Rayleigh’s testing program to carry out mechanical, electrical and environmental testing on perovskite PV panels.
Responsibilities:
·Prepare encapsulation materials for weekly production and prototyping.
·Perform standardized encapsulation process, including layup, soldering, and operating encapsulation machinery.
·Assist engineering team with material preparation and production for R&D activities.
·Perform encapsulation equipment maintenance and calibration.
·Assist in selection of new encapsulation materials and equipment and development of the encapsulation process.
·Act as subject matter expert on panel assembly and provide input to PV panel design
·Update and organize documentation on encapsulation tasks.
·Assist in data collection and analysis when required.
·Electrically characterize (test) PV samples before and after encapsulation.
·Assist in mechanical, electrical and environmental testing of PV cells and modules.
·Maintain cleanliness in workspace.
·Perform any other tasks related to encapsulation and product R&D when required.
Qualifications:
·Technical diploma or equivalent
·1-3 years experience working in a production environment.
·Familiarity with thin film solar technology is an asset but not required.
Other Information:
·The candidate must be able to attend work in a shared workspace at 1 Research Dr., Woodside, NS.
·Hours: 40 per week, variable, with some flexibility between 9:00am and 5:00pm.
