Job Description
  • Neighbourly Pharmacy* is looking for a *Pharmacy Assistant *to join our *Saskatoon-Central, SK* location at *Earl's Pharmacy*.

Reporting to the Store Operator/Pharmacy Manager, and under the supervision of a pharmacist, this role is responsible for performing specific dispensing functions as outlined by provincial regulations and standards of practice.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • The usual shifts will be Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.
Responsibilities
  • Daily cycle counts and inventory management.
  • Supporting pharmacists in clerical tasks and triaging emails.
  • Oversight of McKesson ordering.
  • Ordering dispensing supplies.
  • Removing and processing expired meds and, returns to McKesson.
  • Assisting with monthly care home billing and, batch fill billing.
  • Medication management for pouch changes.
  • Printing and distributing reports.
  • Packing up care home deliveries.
  • Ordering from a secondary supplier.
*Care Home Tasks*
  • Medication room audits, management of stat box, ward stocks and contingency meds.
  • Weekly home visits to pick up and process refills, returned meds, and signing off for returned medications.
*Dispensing*
The pharmacy assistant must be always under the supervision of a pharmacist. All dispensing functions performed by a pharmacy assistant must be carried out following provincial regulations and standards of practice.
  • Regularly phone customers for unclaimed prescriptions.
  • Receive a written prescription from customers.
  • Attach the label to the prescription container.
  • Ensure that the original container, prescription container contents, and label are checked and initialled by the pharmacist.
  • Locate the medication, select the prescription container, and count/pour the medication.
*Pharmacy Operations*
Perform other tasks as outlined by the pharmacy manager or staff pharmacists. To include:
  • All doctors’ calls and inquiries regarding prescriptions, copies, drug information, and poisons must be referred to a pharmacist.
  • Maintain stocks of pamphlets/consumer information.
  • Maintain OTC/non-prescription sections, as designated.
  • Assist with inventory control.
  • Assist with checking off and putting away pharmaceutical orders.
  • Maintain adequate stock of pharmacy supplies.
  • Answer the pharmacy telephone, except for the doctor’s line, which should be answered by a pharmacist.
  • Assist with third-party billing.
  • Keep all areas of the pharmacy clean, neat, and professional.
  • Set up a schedule for outdated pharmaceuticals.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Preference will be given to those who have retail Pharmacy experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Professional attitude and ability to communicate well with customers and co-workers.
  • Kroll experience is an asset.
  • Able to work independently and have experience multi-tasking.
