Occupational Therapist - Pediatrics
About Thrive Occupational Therapy
Thrive Occupational Therapy (Thrive OT) is a locally owned and operated company dedicated to serving children (ages 1-19 years) within the Halifax Regional Municipality area and across Nova Scotia.
We deliver person-centered services to children in our clinic, as well as in their homes and within school-based settings.
We are a company that celebrates the individual differences of each child using a sensory motor framework, as well as play and emotional connections, to support the development of motor, behavioural, cognitive, and social skills.
Thrive Occupational Therapy is seeking an Occupational Therapist with 1 to 2 years of pediatric experience to join our growing team. This is a sub-contractor position and the caseload will be working with the pediatric population (ages 1- 18 years). Experienced Occupational Therapists are preferred and compensated accordingly.
Preference will be given to Occupational Therapists seeking full-time hours. Part-time options are available: however, we would require at least 2 full days of availability per week.
The Occupational Therapist will need a reliable vehicle and be willing to travel up to 1.5 hours outside of Halifax. Alternatively, if you are living near Bridgewater, Truro, or in the Valley, we would be happy to speak with you. Travel will be compensated.
Responsibilities/Requirements:
Pediatric:
Ability to work independently and complete all assessments, reports, and follow-up visits in a timely manner.
Assess strengths and needs of children referred for occupational therapy, through formal and informal evaluation, as well as consultation with the family and other community partners e.g. school, psychology etc.
Develop and implement individualized therapy programs for each child based on evaluations and re-evaluate progress at regular intervals.
Collaborate with the family, child, and community partners for program development and implementation
A strong background in sensory processing, emotional regulation, trauma informed approach to practice, fine motor skills, handwriting, self-care skill development, as well as developmental and relationship-based approaches to support children and families.
Excellent report writing skills
Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with the child, family, and their team
A passion for working with children and families with developmental needs
Requirements:
Degree in Occupational Therapy, from an approved accredited University.
Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS) with professional liability insurance.
Valid driver’s license and vehicle.
Additional car insurance coverage for business use.
Legal ability to work in Canada.
Criminal background check and vulnerable sector check required.
Preference given to those with experience working within mental health.
Benefits & Compensation:
Compensation is hourly as a percentage of billings (contractor). Starting at 50% of hourly rate with potential to increase based on relevant experience.
Travel time
Flexible scheduling
Mentorship and supervision available
Education stipend available
Job Types:
This position is a contract position within the private sector and thus the pay is hourly for billable hours worked. Hours worked may be flexible week to week based on the caseload and client cancellations. However, we are seeing a large influx of referrals and require a reliable Occupational Therapist that can jump in quickly with our team.
