About the role:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based Medical/Scientific expert who serves as a key scientific partner to healthcare providers/organizations and internal UCB colleagues. As an MSL at UCB, you will be responsible for executing key medical strategies to enhance care and positively impact patients living with chronic neurologic and rare diseases. This position will support our Neurology Patient Value Unit (PVU) in the geography of Western Provinces.


What you'll do:

  • Delivers clinical value propositions and engages with key decision-maker stakeholders in medical groups, IDNs, and regional payers
  • Operates at the highest level of UCB compliance and professional standards. Adherence to compliant behavior is an expectation at UCB and is demonstrated by embracing ethical decision-making practices and guidelines in all aspects of our organization
  • Collects, analyzes, and communicates information concerning therapeutic area, treatment options, emerging standards of care, and competitive intelligence
  • Identifies, establishes, and maintains collaborative relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOL)s, clinical specialists, and researchers and conducts scientific exchances in the specific areas of focus
  • Serve as a scientific expert at key medical and scientific conferences, advisory boards, clinical investigator meetings, and internal meetings
  • Reviews and critiques scientific publications to help inform healthcare trends in Neurology specific areas of focus
  • Locally supports UCB clinical investigations and assesses feasibility while serving as the primary liaison between UCB and investigator for unsolicited Investigator-Initiated Studies (IISs) from inception to publication
  • Identifies and supports potential research expansion projects/collaborations, medical advisors, and educational partnership opportunities
  • Supports and collaborates with field-based cross-functional teams to provide medical insights and expertise
  • Provides effective clinical presentations to internal and external audiences to meet specific audience needs
  • Provides field updates regarding topics of interest for the creation and/or updating of Standard Response Letters
  • Conducts local roundtables and education programs that aim to enhance Key Opinion Leaders (KOL)s understanding of unmet clinical needs
  • Addresses medical information inquiries
  • Maintains deep scientific knowledge in areas of Neurology and Rare Diseases


Interested? For this role, we're looking for the following education, experience, and skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Required: M.Sc., Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate degree (PharmD, MD, DO, PhD or similar in a relevant field). Will consider Nurse Practitioner with experience in the relevant therapeutic area
  • Must be a strong team player and effectively interface with other internal departments, including regional business units, marketing, sales, medical affairs, and clinical operations
  • Must reside within the assigned business region (Vancouver or Calgary preferred) and be available to travel to cover the territory (BC, AB, SK, and MB).
  • Strong business acumen with a solid understanding of the pharmaceutical industry
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts in 1:1 and group settings
  • Must complete the initial training and successfully pass all assessments
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative approach to finding solutions and to able to work effectively in a constantly changing environment
  • Neurology, Neuromuscular disease, or Rare Disease experience strongly preferred (Neuromuscular disease/Myasthenia Gravis experience is an asset.)
  • Strong time management, and organizational skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of health economic principles and clinical trials
  • Ability to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts in 1:1 and group settings.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience of success as an MSL
  • Regular travel is required within the region. Travel required to attend company meetings, conferences, etc. (including overnights and some weekends.)
