Department Summary


The School of Dentistry is looking for motivated Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians (MDRT), interested in opportunities to join a dynamic team, supporting excellence in education and patient care. Working under the Supervision of the Materials Management Supervisor and day-to-day support with the Central Sterilization (CS) Lead, the MDRT is responsible for the duties related to the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, wrapping, and sterilization of the Oral Health Clinic's dental instruments.


Position Summary


Shifts are 8 hours in length with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break and available shifts may occur within the following timeframes: 7am to midnight, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work opportunities to support our continuing education program .


Duties


  • Moves carts as required between the Dispensaries, Central Sterilization and Materials Management
  • Sorts, assembles, and packages dental and surgical instruments and equipment
  • Maintains an effective inventory control system for equipment and supplies
  • Participates in the maintenance of central sterilization standard operating procedures and implementation strategies, makes recommendations to the Lead/Supervisor for updating protocols
  • Utilizes Axium software for sterilizing and outer barcoding, instrumentation and cassettes
  • Prepares and submit reports detailing IPC breaches and compliance as required
  • Is knowledgeable and skilled in the use and maintenance of all central sterilization equipment including, but not limited to instrument and cart washers, instrument tracking systems, hand piece maintenance systems and sterilizers
  • Loads, operates, and maintains cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing equipment
  • Accurately distribute the items to each department and or student making sure that the appropriate areas get the supplies needed
  • Performs standard tests to monitor the effectiveness of sterilization procedures
  • Follows the Standard Operating Procedures for the cleaning, inspecting, packaging, and sterilization of dental instrumentation
  • Additional duties as required
  • Promotes proper aseptic technique, proper cleaning and maintenance of all equipment
  • Ensures equipment is operating and maintained as per manufacturer’s instructions in coordination with the Dental Equipment Technician


Qualifications


  • Ability to receive HEP B vaccination
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and perform tasks accurately with attention to detail
  • One year experience with medical or dental instruments preferred
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, push and pull cart loads up to 100lbs, and be able to lift loads up to 50 lbs
  • Current training in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • High School Diploma and Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (MDRT) certification
  • People skills to collaborate and interact effectively with others within a dynamic team-based environment
  • Experience working with specialized dental or sterilization software
  • Knowledge of Infection Control Protocol; sterilization procedures for dental instruments and equipment and inventory management an asset
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity of basic dental terminology an asset
