Job Description
The School of Health and Public Safety at SAIT prepares students for a dynamic career in the health care sector. We offer specialized training in diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, professional assistant programs, information management, and training for wellness professionals. Our programs are hands on, with students and instructors immersed in living classrooms and simulated training.


The Opportunity


The Clinical Support Services Portfolio within the School of Health & Public Safety has a need for an energetic and resourceful individual with great organizational skills to provide instruction in the Part Time Medical Device Reprocessing Technician program. We are currently looking for an experienced registered MDRT for an academic cassia; contract position. The position will report to the Academic Chair of Clinical Support Services. The faculty member professionally facilitates the learning process of the students and supports students in achieving established learning outcomes to the maximum of their potential. The faculty member makes use of any and all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies to ensure student success. The faculty member is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a student-centered learning environment which is pedagogically sound, technically supported and innovative in nature. The specific workload of the faculty member is determined by the Chair or designee after considering the success factors of the school, program and faculty member.


The Role


  • Evaluate and maintain student progress and retention through assessment of evaluations, and sup
  • Engage, as relevant, in professional and career development activities
  • Participate in program, portfolio, School or SAIT meetings
  • Collaborate with other faculty members and institutional partners to advance teaching methodology and educational technology, and to support student success
  • Leverage experience and areas of passion to help shape the future of learning at SAIT
  • Facilitate and supervise students’ learning in classes, laboratories, simulation, and or practicum through effective action-based lessons, activities and assessments
  • Promote professionalism and coach students
  • Maintain currency and relevance of course material, laboratory manuals and other teaching resources with current developments in his/her/their subject matter
  • Create new and maintain existing practicum partner relationships
  • Participate in course development, program reviews and quality assurance activities
  • Adhere to safety legislation and SAIT Policies and Procedures
  • Continue to maintain currency in profession and continue to develop as an faculty member
  • Manage class and laboratory environments to ensure a safe, healthy and positive student learning experience
  • Engage, as appropriate, in scholarly activity, applied research and other projects
  • Prepare laboratory preps and supply lists for Educational Technologists
  • Participate in institutional activities that support students in building their competitiveness, resiliency and citizenship
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance and feedback to students in relation to their progress, achievement, professional standards and general welfare
  • Maintain records for the purposes of grading and tracking attendance in all classes
  • Contribute to advancing the mission and vision of SAIT as being a global leader in applied education


Qualifications & Experience


  • Preferred: Registered with the CSA or International Certifying body
  • Preferred: 3 years minimum experience as a certified and registered MDR
  • Preferred: Minimum of 1-2 years of teaching experience or preceptor mentoring, or clinical education
  • Minimum required: Certified Medical Device Reprocessing Technician nationally and international status
  • Minimum required: Must be a registered MDRT with national and or international certification standards
  • Minimum required: Must be registered with the Canadian or International Association or eligible for registration
