We are seeking a Material Control Support (Material Handler) to join our Shop Services team. Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Shops, this role is responsible for the timely reception of materials for fabrication projects while reporting and responding to queries from Engineers and materials supply teams. The Material Control Support coordinates and moves materials for projects using equipment such as a forklift and/or telehandler, ensuring correct materials are available for the welding team and project completion as well as, organizes and maintains an efficient laydown area for materials and product storage.

What You Get to Do:


  • Receive materials and goods related to projects to be fabricated within the Welding shop.
  • Verify material deliveries meet the requirements as described on purchase orders, fabrication drawings and material test reports by matching quantities and confirming technical compliance.
  • Carry out quality control functions on completed products such as material verification and compliance to drawings prior to shipment.
  • Clearly mark on all fabrication materials (i.e. pipe and fittings) the corresponding heat numbers from
  • Prepare LPOs and MRRs for authorization by Supervisor Shops.
  • Prepare list of shop materials required to pre-fabricate piping and vessels, as well as the description of the materials required, including overall dimensions and quantities.


Material Testing Reports (MTR).


  • Must be able to lift between 25 lbs. – 50 lbs. of materials and equipment for project related duties.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with ATCO Gas Stores and Procurement, and external customers, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Organize, mark and store materials in an appropriate manner prior to use in the Welding Shop.
  • Organize and maintain an efficient laydown area for materials and product storage.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Report to the Supervisor, Shops unsatisfactory conditions relating to safety, environment, working conditions and quality.
  • Coordinate product delivery ensuring the product is complete, secured and meets schedule requirements.
  • Ability to perform bolt up of large and small piping for hydro testing purposes to company standards
  • Respond to queries from Engineers, Procurement and Materials Supply Integrator through our RFI process.
  • Perform housekeeping operations as required.
  • Prepare Material Failure Reports and non-compliance reports and process documentation.
  • Work in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Coordinate and move materials for projects using equipment such as a forklift and or telehandler, ensuring correct material is available for welders.
  • Investigate and reconcile outstanding material deficiencies for projects through our RFI process.
  • Establish and maintain MTR and Job files for materials received for each project.
  • Work closely with Foreman Shops and welding shop staff to enhance project efficiencies.
  • Liaise with the customer, shop, and transportation department to coordinate shipments and order project material where applicable.


Qualifications:


  • Thorough understanding of the Company's safety and environmental protection policies and procedures.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's license and able to obtain an in-house operator's certificate.
  • This position is a Safety-Sensitive position and has additional pre-employment requirements as identified in the Alcohol & Drug Policy 6.2.3 Applicant Testing.
  • Overhead crane certification is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of standard PC office applications and related mainframe systems would be an asset.
  • Must be able to obtain a certificate of qualification for CSA Hydro testing requirements.
  • Working knowledge of material supply systems and material specifications.
  • Grade 12 or G.E.D.
  • Must be competent in the operation of a forklift and telehandler.
  • Ability to learn how to read and interpret blueprints and plans.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, learning ability, technical aptitude, initiative, mature judgment, and responsible work habits.
