Roles and Responsibilities:
* Represent clients in civil and commercial litigation matters, including trials, hearings, and appeals.
* Conduct legal research to analyze case law, statutes, and regulations relevant to the client's case.
* Assess the merits of a case by evaluating evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing legal documents.
* Develop and implement effective legal strategies to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.
* Draft and file legal documents, such as complaints, motions, briefs, and appeals.
* Conduct discovery proceedings, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests.
* Negotiate settlements and plea bargains on behalf of clients when appropriate.
* Prepare and present arguments and evidence in court to support clients' positions.
* Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and legal professionals to provide comprehensive legal services.
* Stay updated on legal developments and changes in laws that may impact clients' cases.
* Maintain accurate and organized case files and documentation.
* Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and the court throughout the litigation process.
Requirements:
* Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school/ NCA Equivalency.
* Admission to the bar and a license to practice law in Ontario.
* Proven experience as a litigation lawyer, preferably with a focus on the civil litigation.
* Strong knowledge of civil and/or commercial procedure, evidence, and substantive law.
* Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
* Effective negotiation and advocacy skills.
* Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
* Professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to ethical conduct.
