Job Description
City Experiences is seeking a Line Cook for our City Cruises operation in Gananoque.


  • Please note this is a contract position*

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.


About The Opportunity


The Line Cook is responsible preparing food items such as appetizers, entrees, desserts and group buffets when required. Key areas of responsibility include preparing foods, operating kitchen equipment ranging from flat top, grill, deep fryers and range. The Line Cook is also responsible for portioning food, labeling items, maintaining a clean work area, discarding wastes and expired food, managing inventories, and efficiently cleaning china and other wares.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Exhibits a team approach, willing attitude, and a positive approach towards assisting fellow co-workers
  • Understands all City Cruises’ policies and procedures relating to the employee’s role within the company
  • Cleans food preparation equipment, work areas, and counters or tables
  • Portions food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications
  • Works with a safety mindset by following all safety policies, procedures and safety measures (i.e. PPE). Identifies and brings forward risks, hazards and opportunities on the job. Actively participates in health and safety in the workplace
  • Ability to prepare all food from raw to finished state, rotating of stock, receiving orders, and storing product
  • Restocks all items as needed throughout shift and clean/maintain kitchen and service areas while practicing good safety and sanitation skills
  • Test and document dish machine temperature and sanitizer daily
  • Completes any other duties as assigned
  • Maintains any applicable licenses and certifications
  • Operate dish machine; ensures all dishes are cleaned, organized, and stored appropriately
  • Reports to work on time and for all scheduled shifts
  • Prepares menu items for roasting, broiling, grilling and sautéing
  • Maintains a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance (refer to appearance standards in employee handbook)
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area
  • Ensure that dishwasher is in proper working order; responsible for routine cleaning of equipment and refilling chemicals as needed
  • Follows recipes, portion control, and presentation specification as set by management
  • Greets guests in a professional, friendly, and approachable manner
  • Responsible for the proper safe food handling and sanitation procedures in a timely manner in a fast-paced high-volume environment
  • Stock supplies such as food and utensils in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and buffets or food stations
  • Adheres to all health and safety regulations


Requirements & Qualifications


  • Continually and repeatedly perform functions indoors and outdoors
  • A positive attitude and good work ethic
  • Walk, stand, sit and work in all types of weather conditions for extended periods
  • Knowledge of another language in addition to English is preferred
  • Food Handlers Certification
  • Must have proven kitchen experience, including food preparation, food production in a short order cooking role
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Culinary education and training are required
  • O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education
  • Demonstrated food & beverage service skills
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in Food and Beverage
  • If required, wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection)
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 35 pounds (16 kilograms)
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and troubleshooting skills in a fast-paced work environment
