Our Toronto office is currently seeking a highly motivated Law Clerk to support the firm’s financial services practice group with specific focus on commercial lending transactions. The ideal candidate will be an organized and eager professional who possesses great client service skills and a strong work ethic.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Conducting various due diligence searches in jurisdictions across Canada including, but not limited to, corporate profiles, personal property security, insolvency, litigation, Bank Act.
- Drafting closing documentation for lending transactions.
- Completing Personal Property Security Act registrations.
- Providing analysis of search results and identifying deficiencies to assist the firm’s financial services transactions.
- Coordinating closing documentation and deliverables for lending transactions.
The successful candidate must have the following education, experience and/or demonstrated skills:
- Knowledge of the corporate procedures, statutes and regulations relating to corporate formation, filings and the Personal Property Security Act considered an asset.
- Law Clerk certification from an accredited institute or commensurate experience.
- Strong working knowledge of standard and legal software.
- Excellent critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills applied in developing and recommending practical and informed solutions in an effective and efficient manner.
- Excellent time management skills and prioritization skills in managing multiple projects, competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
- Confident and dependable, with strong initiative and ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented atmosphere.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written) including the ability to effectively manage the expectations of clients, all levels of lawyers and legal professionals in a professional manner.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of lending and/or due diligence search experience in a law firm.
