Join the GFID team as an integral part of our residential interior design projects. In this role, you'll immerse yourself in every facet of the design journey. Your involvement will span across diverse project phases, ranging from significant renovations and upscale new builds to the delightful transformation of kitchens and bathrooms. While projects will have oversight from our project manager, your role as an interior designer will be truly hands-on. You'll wield influence over every stage of the process, starting from initial consultations and extending to the capture of project milestones through captivating photography. Responsibilities:
- Produce comprehensive drawing packages suitable for estimating and guiding the construction process.
- Create presentations for clients, showcasing design concepts, material choices, and furniture arrangements.
- Utilize your design skills to craft detailed floorplans, interior and exterior elevations, millwork layouts, ceiling plans, and finish plans.
- Capture comprehensive notes during meetings, site visits, and virtual calls to ensure accurate project documentation.
- Attend and actively participate in client and supplier meetings, both in-person and via virtual platforms.
- Collaborate on furniture layouts, integrating existing and new pieces, while curating selections to enhance the overall aesthetic.
- Source and select a variety of finishes, lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, hardware, appliances, and other interior elements.
- Conduct on-site visits at different stages of construction and renovation projects to ensure design execution aligns with plans.
- Create and manipulate 3D SketchUp models to illustrate spatial concepts and design intentions.
- Manage change orders, promptly addressing questions and modifications during the construction phase.
- Develop innovative concepts and create electronic idea boards to visually communicate design proposals effectively.
- Measure spaces and produce precise as-built drawings to inform design decisions.
- Oversee the coordination, ordering, and delivery of furnishings, fabrics, art, and accessories.
- Effectively present your design proposals to clients, addressing their needs and incorporating feedback.
- Populate documents to clearly communicate design specifications to various stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Technology: Possession of a personal laptop is a requirement for this role, allowing you to efficiently collaborate, communicate, and complete tasks using digital tools.
- Transportation: Possession of a car, allowing for efficient travel to client meetings, site visits, and other project-related locations as needed.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in essential software tools such as AutoCAD and SketchUp, enabling precise design documentation and spatial visualization. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat for project management and document preparation. Experience with 3D rendering software and Adobe Creative Suite is advantageous, although not a mandatory requirement.
- Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design from a CIDA-accredited institution. Alternatively, a Diploma in Interior Design, coupled with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience encompassing all the responsibilities mentioned above. This foundation ensures a comprehensive understanding of design principles and practical execution.
- Professional Experience: A comprehensive student portfolio from your degree program and/or a proven track record in professional roles that involve the full spectrum of interior design responsibilities. These should showcase your ability to excel in tasks ranging from concept creation to contract documentation.
