Job Description
Team & Culture


This position will oversee the management and coordination of heavy civil construction project(s). As the Junior Project Manager, you will work under the leadership of an experienced Project Manager but are expected to run your project autonomously. This requires managing the full scope of the project for its successful completion based on the expectations of the customer. You will have practical field experience backed by technical knowledge. You are a confident leader with strong communication skills and a natural ability to adapt under pressure. You’re driven and committed to completing the job within the budget and timeline required while maintaining an excellent relationship with the client.


Expectations


  • Maintaining the overall project schedule and being fluent in Microsoft Project.
  • Be able to discuss specifics of contracts such as unit price, lump sum, and force account contracts.
  • Understand the structure of contract and unique language of Civil Construction.
  • Understand budget, and current cost, and be able to forecast cost.
  • Have a sound understanding of, and field experience in heavy civil construction activities, particularly around earthworks and concrete.
  • Be well versed in regulatory & industry standards and be able to adapt to potential new requirements.
  • Strong decision maker and able to execute decisions with confidence.
  • Serve as a field-level point of contact for the client. Attend client meetings.
  • Read and understand each new contract’s terms and conditions, and submittal requirements.
  • Identify and negotiate changes to the contract.
  • Ability to delegate and mentor field engineers and project coordinators.
  • Natural ability to adapt quickly to changes in environment and application of work.
  • Able to present an understanding of fieldwork to clients in the form of work plans while also providing input on crew makeup.
  • Take initiative, collaborate with others, open to taking direction, and willing to think outside the box.
  • Willing to work throughout BC and Western Canada. Able to accommodate a rotational schedule, camp accommodation, and remote locations.


Qualifications


  • Adaptable under pressure.
  • Completed relevant post secondary education such as degree or technical diploma.
  • Effective communication skills, confident interacting with key contacts in verbal, written and electronic form.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and be a team leader.
  • 4 years field experience in a similar role.
