This is to fill 1 term position ending April 30, 2027, working 75 hours bi-weekly.

This opportunity…
The Transportation Engineering Branch is responsible for the planning, design, rehabilitation and construction of different highways, bridges and transportation infrastructure throughout Yukon. There are currently approximately 45 people working at the Branch; we’re a diverse group of people who truly enjoy working together. The work is fast paced, varied and there isn’t a lot of downtime - even in the winter, as our planning and the majority of the design work is completed by our employees. This position is responsible for supervising various transportation infrastructure construction projects and for providing design assistance. The Junior Inspector’s position involves supervised, practical work experience, while continually increasing the incumbent’s responsibilities to a Project Inspector’s level of competency.

Essential Qualifications (what we’re looking for in your resume):
  • Experience applying construction and maintenance techniques in a Northern environment is an asset
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology is an asset
  • Experience directly related to highway and bridge construction
  • Experience with surveying, project inspection or soils testing in relation to highway design and construction

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability (what candidates will be assessed on):
  • Competence with various computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Softree);
  • Effective written and oral communication skills;
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently; and
  • Strong administrative, interpersonal and organizational skills;
Conditions of Employment
Must possess and maintain a valid Yukon Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent
Valid Standard First Aid certification within 6 months
Job Requirements
Travel throughout Yukon, working in adverse weather conditions, mandatory use of personal protective equipment, and working outside of headquarters area for extended periods of time.
