JOB DESCRIPTION
An intermediate to senior position is available for planners with a minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience with excellent interpersonal skills, proven project management experience, and a willingness to work in a team environment.
QUALIFICATION AND SKILL SET
- Able to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive planning experience in an intermediate or senior role with project management experiences.
- Site plan and subdivision design skills are an asset.
- Membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute as a Registered Professional Planner (RPP).
- A degree in urban planning from a recognized college or university.
- Expert knowledge of the Ontario Planning System including provincial legislation, policies and plans, as well as municipal policies, By-laws, and approval processes.
- Valid G-class driver’s license with daily access to a vehicle required.
- Strong oral communication, writing and presentation skills with exemplary problem-solving skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Consulting background as a lead planner / project manager responsible for private development planning applications is preferred.
- Highly motivated to ensure a timely approval process with the necessary conflict resolution skills to proactively overcome obstacles before presenting options to our clients.
- Has the necessary presentation skills to articulate a supported professional opinion before approval authorities such as Planning Committees, and City Council.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment with other Planners and Technicians.
- Experienced in preparation of hearing materials including witness statements, compendium of documents, and materials as necessary to support legal staff.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with an ability to manage sophisticated planning applications in designated greenfield as well as urban infill areas, coordinate conditions of approval, including the selection and management of consulting teams to achieve client, municipal and agency expectations.
- Recognized by the Ontario Land Tribunal as an expert witness.
- Possesses strong working relationships with municipal, provincial and agency staff.
- Has strong negotiation skills and capable of concisely presenting a development proposal to clients, attending public community meetings and municipal staff meetings, as required.
