Instructor, Volunteer Fire Fighter

Established in 1976, the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. These Include The Following Broad Range Of Accountabilities

This position will be utilized on a call-in basis, to fulfill numerous short-term training contracts across the province. This position is responsible for delivering SIIT programs and curricula with the purpose of promoting student success. This position is to organize and implement instructional activities which create a learning environment that guides and provides the greatest opportunity for student success. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.

• Make recommendations to modify course objectives, course outlines, curriculum and evaluation procedures
• Adhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT policies and procedures
• Ensure a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment
• Complete all course-required materials including attendance records and course evaluations
• Use appropriate methods of evaluating and recording student progress within set time frames
• Maintain classroom and shop discipline and, if necessary, recommend action to applicable supervisor regarding student behavior, including formal student disciplinary action
• Deliver volunteer structural firefighting training to Saskatchewan First Nations communities

Required Qualifications and Experience: Certified in the following: NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, Level 1 & 2; NFPA 472 Standard for Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents; NFPA 1041 Fire Services Instructor, Level 1; NFPA 1031 Inspections or equivalent is preferred. Experience in delivering training programs is considered an asset. Experience working with MS Office suite of programs is required. An understanding of adult learning theories and principles is considered an asset. Knowledge of First Nations culture and organizations, and prior experience teaching First Nations Adults are considered assets. First Aid and CPR certification considered an asset.

As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT's Alcohol and Substances policy.
