Job Description

The Industrial Electrician performs electrical and mechanical preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs, as well as occasional new electrical installations. He/she is part of the maintenance team, which works as a service department for the Production Department with the main objective to ensure efficient 24/7 production and to avoid/minimize unplanned downtime of production equipment.


Core areas of responsibility:


Preventative maintenance and repair (electrical and mechanical) of automated

production lines and control systems in a 24/7 production operation.

 Troubleshoot electrical, electronic or mechanical problems (e.g. sensors, motors,

heaters, controls, PLC/HMI, etc.) on production equipment.

 Monitor electrical equipment and components (preventative and predictive

maintenance).

 Maintain production equipment in OEM condition (full functionality, originally

specified parts; avoid “band-aids”).

 Occasional installations (new equipment) and/or modifications.

 Assist with mechanical work as needed (i.e., support millwrights).

 Work with CMMS to obtain work orders, inventory lists for spare parts, spare part

location in inventory, close work orders (i.e., provide information about work

completed, etc.).

 Daily reporting (CMMS and/or Maintenance Logbook) and housekeeping.

 Adhere to professional quality standards (electrical work).

 Work in a safe manner and in accordance with ESA Standard, and adhere to all

safety policies and procedures.


Wear required Personal Protective Equipment.

 Report all injuries (no matter how small) to supervisor and complete accident report

asap.

 Complete incident reports for property damage and/or material spills.

 Contain and/or report any hazardous condition or problem.

 Assist with on-the-job training for new/junior staff as requested by Maintenance

Supervisor or Management.

 Occasionally assist with production as requested by Maintenance Supervisor or

Management.

 Recommend improvements to production equipment regarding safety, efficiency,

and/or cost savings.

 Tasks/responsibilities may be modified and/or other tasks/responsibilities may be

assigned at any time at the sole discretion of the company.

equipment.

Qualifications:

 Industrial Electrician 442A, 309A or 309D with Certificate of Qualification (Red Seal)

 Graduate of Electrical Engineering Technician program an asset

 Minimum 3-5 years of experience in industrial/production environment (including

troubleshooting VFDs, servo motors, motor controls, PLCs, etc.)


Training:

 Siemens S7 300/500 and 1500 PLC trouble shooting and programming

 AC Frequency drives (Siemens S120)

 Relay logic and motor controls

 Temperature controllers

 HMI, PLC programming

 Reading, interpreting, and designing electrical schematics (e.g., for

troubleshooting)

 Basic computer skills (e.g., MS Office, etc.)


Forklift certificate an asset


Personal Profile

The Industrial Electrician possesses a combination of skills, including:

 Excellent analytical and hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

(electrical, mechanical, etc.)

 Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a growing and fast-paced

work environment

 Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills

 High degree of accountability and responsibility

 Demonstrates initiative and attention to detail

 Fully completes assigned work

 Values providing service to others

 Demonstrates pride and eagerness to support the Production Department with a

high degree of urgency in case of equipment malfunction or breakdown

 Ability to implement and carry out improvement initiatives and projects

 Fluent in reading and writing English (German an asset)

 Valid driver’s license (Class G)

 Physically able to sit, stand and walk around for long periods at a time, and lift up

to 25 kg repeatedly

 Eligible to work in Canada

 Regular attendance and punctuality are vital attributes for all employees. It is

imperative for employees to attend work regularly and to arrive at work on time,

because failure to do so detrimentally affects employee morale and productivity.


Working Conditions:

 Flexibility to accommodate a 24/7 production operation; regularly alternating

work times as scheduled by Maintenance Supervisor:

o Day Shift (6.30am – 3.00 pm), or Afternoon Shift (3.00pm – 11.30pm) plus

overtime as required in case of breakdown

o 1 weekend every 4 weeks (Saturday & Sunday), Day Shift or Afternoon Shift

o Night Shift call-ins as required (during pre-scheduled “on-call” weeks)

o Potential for change to 12-hour rotating shift system “Four on / Four off” to

accommodate full 24/7 maintenance coverage

 Overtime and/or weekend work as required by company needs (pre-approved by

Maintenance Supervisor or Management)

 100% on-site at company premises

 Occasional travel may be required
