Job Description

Head Cook

The Head Cook is in charge of daily kitchen operations, including directing the Assistant cook(s) and any volunteers assigned to them. The Head Cook is responsible for ensuring that staff and volunteers are fed in a healthy, sanitary and timely manner. Head Cook will be responsible for cooking for 80 – 100 people.


Duties

·Cooking and prepping three meals a day plus snacks

·Menu planning including adjusting menu for special dietary needs

·Ordering, receiving and organizing food orders

·Proper food storage and handling

·Managing and supervising kitchen staff including scheduling and time-off requests

·Cleaning and sanitizing kitchen areas, dining hall, seating areas and all eating areas including front porch

·Responsible for enforcing COVID regulations and policies set forth by the Board of Directors to fellow coworkers and guests within the dining hall


Requirements

  • Previous experience in a kitchen or restaurant
  • Valid Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Must know how to cook from scratch and be experienced with commercial cooking equipment
  • Familiar with Canada Food Guide and will follow it in their menu planning
  • Be able to manage food inventories and ordering
  • Previous experience supervising kitchen staff
  • Child Abuse Registry and Criminal Record Check required

Head Cook will report to the Camp Director.

Term of employment: July 2-August 12, 2023. Room and Board included. Location is in Riding Mountain National Park.
