Job Description
R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited has an immediate opening for a Geoscientist or Environmental Technologist position working primarily within our Development Hydrogeology Group. We are primarily seeking candidates looking to work out of our Pickering office, however, will also consider applicants interested in working out of our Newmarket office.


Role Specifics


This position will involve carrying out the following tasks, and includes:


  • Office duties such as: field and laboratory data compilation, graphing and analysis along with other project support activities including, but not limited to, coordination of laboratories and subcontractors, equipment management, data filing and report preparation.
  • Working closely with a team of hydrogeologists, engineers and other technical staff in support of land development and other hydrogeology projects with a secondary role supporting the PTTW monitoring field team located in Pickering
  • Being primarily involved with field duties for soil sampling, soil descriptions and borehole logs, groundwater and surface water monitoring, hydraulic conductivity testing, infiltration testing, and water sampling.
  • Career development pathway toward registration as Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.), Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET).


Professional Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications


  • Comfortable working independently and outdoors at all times of year.
  • An environmental or earth science degree with a focus on soils, surface water and groundwater (hydrogeology) or environmental technology diploma.
  • Eligible for, or on pathway to professional registration as P.Geo., P.Eng., or C.E.T.
  • Self-motivated and organized, with strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize, schedule and complete multiple tasks. Team player, with strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Previous relevant work experience, preferably in environmental consulting/ hydrogeology.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel and Office) with a solid working knowledge of Excel for data entry and graphing. A working knowledge of aquifer test analysis software (Aqtesolv, Aquifer Test) and borehole logging software (gINT) would be an asset.
  • Ability to work across southern Ontario.
  • Detail oriented, with attention to speed and accuracy for field notes and data compilation.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s licence and vehicle.
