Job Description
Summary
The FinOps Specialist is responsible for driving financial operational excellence of the platform. This role involves collaborating with platform teams to analyze, plan, and monitor cloud expenditure while ensuring the efficient use of resources. FinOps Specialist will uncover opportunities for cost savings, implement standard processes, and develop metrics to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of cloud usage.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with financial audits to ensure MCP spending is tracked and reported accurately
  • Analyze monthly cloud costs, identifying high-cost services or resources and recommending cost-saving measures
  • Develop and maintain MCP cost optimization strategies
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Create financial reports and dashboards for collaborators, using tools like Power BI, Azure Synapse Analytics, or Grafana
  • Supervise and analyze MCP expenditure to identify trends and improvement areas using Azure monitoring tools
  • Prepare budget plans and supervise actual performance of MCP
  • Research and assess new cloud offerings for cost reduction and enhanced efficiency
  • Collaborate with platform teams to align financial and operational goals and ensure integration of cloud cost management strategies
  • Educate and train team members on the standard processes of cost-effective MCP usage (including workshops and training sessions)
  • Support development and deployment of automated tools and scripts to monitor, report, and optimize MCP resources and costs
Qualifications
  • Dedication to staying up-to-date on the latest FinOps methodologies, cloud technologies, and industry standard processes
  • Detailed approach to data accuracy, financial and operating reporting
  • Experience working in a collaborative agile team environment
  • Outstanding knowledge of Azure or other major cloud platforms and their pricing models, as well as an understanding of cloud services, tools, and technologies
  • Flexibility to quickly adjust to changing priorities and embrace new tools, technologies, and processes in a dynamic environment
  • Familiarity with programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript) is an asset
  • Strong communication skills, able to clearly articulate financial goals and drive a cost-awareness culture across the platform and key customers
  • Proficient understanding of financial principles, cost management, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Sound problem-solving skills with the capacity to identify and resolve financial and operational issues, as well as develop innovative cost-savings strategies
  • Ability to analyze sophisticated data sets, identify trends, and draw insights for cost optimization and resource allocation decisions
  • Motivated about Agile software processes and methodologies
  • Experience with cloud cost management tools and automation solutions
