Job Description

Rukaj Gallery is seeking a part-time Framer. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Gallery's framing department, which is located on-site. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with fine art framing, and will be organized, detail-oriented, an excellent communicator, and self-motivated.


Duties:

  • Wrap completed framing orders and notify clients when orders are complete
  • Assist with packing and crating artworks for international and domestic shipping
  • Assemble custom frames for a wide variety of artworks (including canvases, drawings, and photographs)
  • Keep track of the location and status of framing orders
  • Assemble stretchers; stretch canvases and other textile works
  • Maintain a clean, organized framing department


Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently
  • 3-5 years of experience with fine art framing, ideally in a gallery environment
  • Strong knowledge of framing methods and styles
  • Ability to handle large artworks and materials (e.g. sheets of plexiglass, lengths of moulding)
  • Commitment to maintaining workplace health and safety; ability to use proper PPE (including a mask, gloves, and safety goggles when necessary)
  • Prior experience handling fine art; knowledge of safe handling and storage practices for paintings, artworks on paper, prints, textiles, and mixed-media works
  • Ability to operate equipment including a mat cutter, glass cutter, and saw
