Job Description

Saskatchewan Blue Cross®, one of Saskatchewan’s Top Employers, is currently recruiting for a permanent full-time Financial Reporting Analyst to join our team in the Accounting department. This position offers the flexibility to work in-office or participate in hybrid options based in our Saskatoon or Regina office.


JOB FUNCTION

Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, the Financial Reporting Analyst is responsible for assisting in review, preparation, and analysis of financial information, as well as, supporting the maintenance of the company’s financial systems, and internal controls. The Financial Reporting Analyst will work closely with the Manager, Accounting, in the implementation of new or enhanced financial processes; ensuring systems, processes, and procedures incorporate strong internal controls to improve Saskatchewan Blue Cross’ ability to meet and support customer and organizational business needs. To be successful in this position, you’ll need to possess strong financial acumen, exceptional organizational competencies, and the ability to manage shifting priorities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with external auditors and provide assistance with annual audit
  • Participate in projects and provide input and suggestions for the integration into current Accounting Department procedures
  • Perform other duties as required
  • Assist with preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements
  • Maintain analytical accounting codes
  • Collaborate with departments and support budget data & forecasting preparation
  • Complete ad hoc reporting and scenario analysis as required; including meeting with stakeholder to understand reporting requirements and developing best method to gather and deliver data
  • Prepare and review monthly general ledger account reconciliations and journal entries
  • Assist in preparing or facilitating required reporting around KPIs, analyzing data, and identifying trends, challenges, or opportunities
  • Analyze financial and business processes, make recommendations, and aid the implementation of automated solutions to improve efficiency
  • Assist in monthly financial reporting and analysis
  • Ensure that data integrity is maintained through reporting prepared
  • Aid in the preparation of various surveys and reports


QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Strong interest and working knowledge of/experience with financial systems
  • Excellent organizational, research, and analytical skills with the ability to summarize information into reports and other documents
  • Experience and knowledge of the Insurance Industry or benefit products and services would be considered assets
  • Knowledge of MS Dynamics GP, and the use of computer-based reporting tools (SSRS, SQL, Excel, Power BI) to generate end-user reports would be an asset
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated proactive approach to problem-solving with initiative to follow up on items or determine appropriate steps for timely resolution
  • Ability to integrate IFRS and internal control knowledge into new systems and day to day procedures
  • Keen interest in process simplification and improvement
  • Ability to develop, plan, execute, and complete multiple initiatives concurrently
  • A sense of initiative, with the ability to set priorities, follow workflows, and meet deadlines
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Ability to communicate both clearly and concisely in verbal and/or written format
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada on an unrestricted basis
  • Criminal Record and background check satisfactory to Saskatchewan Blue Cross
  • 3-5 years of financial and/or accounting experience
  • Strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Commerce, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience is required
  • Working knowledge of IFRS
