Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a tenure-track faculty position in Small Animal Surgery with the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate include: high quality instruction in small animal surgery to undergraduate and graduate veterinarians; organizational responsibility and participation in the clinical teaching and service programs of the Small Animal Clinic of the Veterinary Medical Centre; delivery of continuing education to practicing veterinarians; and scholarship and research in small animal surgery and/or scholarship of teaching.


The Veterinary Medical Centre at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine is a state-of-the-art facility servicing western Canada as an AVMA and AAHA accredited hospital and referral centre. Equipment and diagnostic enhancements include a CT scanner, 1.5 T MRI, nuclear scintigraphy, linear accelerator with SRT and IMRT capabilities and PET-CT. Advanced surgical equipment includes portable C-arm fluoroscopy, minimally invasive equipment, cemented and cementless total hip replacement equipment, vessel sealing device, operating microscope, with in-house access to rehabilitation.


The WCVM is western Canada’s regional college of veterinary medicine. It is part of a comprehensive academic health sciences group on the university campus, with access to facilities including the Canadian Light Source and the Biomedical Beamline and Saskatchewan Centre for Cyclotron Sciences. Candidates must have a DVM degree or its equivalent and must be eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan. Candidates must be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or have completed an ACVS registered residency program at the time the appointment takes effect. ACVS Board certification is required for tenure. Previous academic experience and an advanced research degree are desirable. ECVS certified candidates are welcome to apply. Possession of an advanced degree is desirable.


Salary bands for this position for the 2021-2022 academic year are as follows:


Assistant Professor: $98,178 to $117,978; Associate Professor: $117,978 to $137,778; and Professor $137,778 to $160,878 and is negotiable based on qualifications and experience..
